I dunno how many votes podcasts got but that’s now available.
So I guess there is some hope - (place sarcastic emoji here)

A Premium music library is possible with a plex pass that will download from commercial service LyricFind but local *.lrc and *.txt (not timed) files do not yield such requirements.
The following formats are supported for external/sidecar lyric files in local media assets agent:
LRC (.lrc) – timed lyric file using the LRC format [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LRC_(file_format)]
TXT (.txt) – plain text file with lyrics (no timing)

How to create *.lrc:
CDG are pictures otherwise an agent could have converted as subtitles.
Like DVDs, physical media are problematic and make no sense supporting for a streaming software, but downloading LRC does.
A metadata agent would need an API to connect to and download the file locally or in a shared location like subliminal (https://github.com/bramwalet/Subliminal.bundle/tree/master/Contents/Code) but is possible, searching if no *.lrc for the track is there…
I am considering an agent for that but dunno if there is enough demand for it.
Would really love to see Karaoke added to Plex. Would really take out a lot of setup from hosting Karaoke parties.
I agree with Sameersbn, I have a huge collection of CDG file with the MP3 and would love to be able to leverage Plex to manage the Karaoke party in the future.
The way Windows Media Center did it (Way back when) is that you installed a directx “karaoke file” player, associated *.CDG files with WMC and configured WMC to open the *.CDG files with the external app. Karaoke for DirectX download | SourceForge.net
This would be trivial to do with the web player, (and it would meet many people’s needs) but then everyone will be clamoring “Why can’t I do that with the app on my TV or Roku”
Correction, it wasn’t a standalone player.
“DirectShow filter for playing back MIDI and CD+G karaoke files (.kar, .cdg, .bin) as video in Windows Media Player”

Why has nobody posted on this thread for so long? Its a great idea and shouldn’t be forgotten.
I would love to see support in PLEX for Karaoke media (as its own library).
I have only a modest collection (a few hundred) paired MP3 CDG files that I would like to be able to access in PLEX,
I run PLEX server on my NAS and the kids both have their own user logins so I can manage what they can access on their android Tablets.
Putting this into PLEX would mean they can sing their little hearts out to the Lion King and the Greatest Showman in the privacy of their own bedrooms and I will not need to use earplugs so often.
Please, please, please add this feature soon…
I agree. As a DJ I have thousands of songs. I’ve given a friend access to my server who also comes to my shows. He’d love to be able to practice ahead of time instead of sounding bad trying new songs live.
Please, please please add native playback support for CDG + MP3. I have thousands of files in my collection. It would take FOREVER to convert all of them to MP4 or AVI. This would be an amazing feature for Plex to have in their belt. Please, please please.
I’d love the idea for Karaoke support!
I have over 200k (about 1.7tb) of songs!!!
PLEASE make Plex support Karaoke!
Vote for Karaoke!
Absolutely, would be ace for a party night and my kids would love it!!! Especially if you could change the key as with other players…
Especially with the local #plandemic this would help pass the time.
Please keep voting this up. It really is a huge missing piece.
This would be terrific and would finally streamline EVERYTHING FOR ME.
My ultimate dream how this would be integrated would be to add a -karaoke tag for the music video sort function. In this scenario one would also be able to view Music Videos on their own as a category within the server. This would work for video files where the lyric stream is burned into the video stream, like YouTube content presents them. I will also add my voice to request .CDG be integrated. It is an audio stream with a text stream hooked up with it, it should be a fairly elegant thing to bring into the fold. The .zip format that bundles the two streams together would also have to be brought in because this format has been ubiquitous for over a decade.
a work around that i do is put the a Karaoke folder on Tv Shows and just number the karaoke music from 1 - 100+
What format do you have Karaoke files in? Are they Video with embedded lyrics, or CDG style?
Sadly your best option would be a cdg player on a pc that has access to the drive you have your Plex media on.
I’m all for new features, but this is too ultra niche, book support has been requested for over a decade, and if something as common as that doesn’t get in, I don’t think this ever will.
Why does it have to be Plex specifically anyways? If your Plex server can access the drive surely a karaoke app can.
Plus, Plex can’t even gather metadata from .wav, what makes you think they’d ever be able to read .cdg if it can’t even do that?
I support adding karaoke to plex. I’m a retired KJ/VJ/DJ and I add my music videos to my plex for home consumption, and it would be great to be able to sing on my TVs with an app that works on my TV like Plex. Although, yes you can point SOME (not all) software to a mapped folder on a server, this still requires you to hook a computer up somewhere in the mix to use these LIMITED apps. Why should I have to take 10-20 minutes to set up my computer for operation on my TV, load the program, make sure I have dual monitors configure, etc. It’s just not as convenient as Plex (or another TV app).
I would love MP3+CDG support I mean I have already subscribed to plex so I understand if you don’t do it but I can see lots of new customers who would jump on board with this platform. it would be so easy as a mobile DJ Karaoke operator to use this and also as a home user to get karaoke into every room of the house with minimal effort.
PLEASE GET THIS MADE THANKS.
