Surface Pro 7 has major issues with desktop and web clients

Server Version#: 1.23.2.4656
Player Version#: 4.59.2
Device: Surface Pro 7 i5-10xx (8GB ram)

Just installed the Windows Desktop version (having the same problems with the web version as well) on a Surface Pro 7.

Here are the issues I’m having:
Desktop client scrolls sluggishly but web client on Edge scrolling is fine.
Desktop client often won’t play shows but web client Edge will.
Touching with finger, clicking with trackpad, or tapping with Surface Pro pen all have weird behaviors. Sometimes it thinks I’m tapping somewhere I’m not. Sometimes Plex responds like I am clicking repeatedly. For example, if I click the play/pause button, it will start playing and pausing rapidly. This happens on both the desktop app and the web client. It is not touchscreen related because it does it when I use the trackpad, and my extensive touchscreen tests have indicated a perfect screen. I’ve also visited multiple websites and have used a number of other apps with no issues related to clicking or touching.

I’m also not having any issues with my other desktops and laptops. It seems to be an issue specific to the Surface Pro 7 and Plex together, as removing either one from the equation resolves the issues.

Hardware-wise there should be no issues. I’ve run several tests on the Surface to detect any throttling, touchscreen issues, etc, with no problems.

You’re right, Plex Web and Plex for Windows/Mac both are not touch friendly.

We haven’t prioritized improving touch support of Plex Web. On iOS devices it’s less egregious because we have a touch friendly native app. The same relationship isn’t true on Windows touch devices where Plex Web is the native user interface. We have to balance device support work based on usage information.

I want you to know your feedback is appreciated and has been included in our tracking issue.

I really appreciate your response. In attempting to find a solution I found a number of other individuals on Reddit and other forums describe a similar experience, although I don’t know that they ever formally reported it. As a programmer myself, I often don’t know there’s an issue, or that anyone cares about it, unless someone says something about it.

Although a responsive touch interface for the Windows or Web app would be nice, I would be happy if just normal mouse/trackpad clicks worked properly. I love Plex for a variety of media but it has been a frustration experience with my Surface Pro 7.

Thank you again for passing this information along to the appropriate team.

I’d just like to second what’s written here. I got a Windows tablet and was disappointed to find that Plex is only usable with the keyboard cover attached. No relaxing on the sofa with the tablet to enjoy some TV for me, I’m afraid.

Really, the multiple-clicks-on-tap issue is the killer here. I’d be fine with the fact that the interface isn’t really touch-optimized, but this makes browsing content difficult, and playback control impossible. I don’t think I’ve encountered another web site or app that has this problem, so it seems like it should be a straightforward issue to fix?

For me the windows app just crashes instantly on playback of any file. It plays fine in a browser or other device.

I’m using the latest version of the windows player.
