Surround not working properly on Plex Android

Server Version:latest
Player Versionl:latest

I have a weird problem i don’t understand why happens. On all other apps, and especially bravia core, my TV plays 5.1 perfectly fine. Unfortunately, that is not the case on Plex. It clearly has problems with the “center” channel, as dialogue is often very low. I use my integrated speakers, but before you talk down about them, know that they are Sony acoustic surface. Linus himself said that they perform as good as a soundbar without sub. I have no problems in any other apps. In bravia core for example, I get great sound. As far as I know, that is DTS audio. I have tried DTS files in plex, but the dialogue is often too low. I always direct play. If I turn on passthrough optical it gets significantly better. Perhaps it goes to stereo? The whole point of the audio chip in the expensive sony tv’s is to use 5.1 audio tracks, so I am not sure what to do. The logs doesn’t say anything, as its direct play.

Could this be related to the android app not being able to use DTS and atmos with integrated speakers or something? I’m pretty sure AC 5.1 works fine.

so setting passthrough to optical seems to fix it. What does this do when I am not using an external audio system? The audio is still direct playing. Any negative effects?

Further testing. This is definitely only with DTS and putting passthrough on enabled and optical definitely solves it. This is a bug that should be fixed.

no plex employee even bother looking into or even replying. Shocked.

I use DTS via HDMI passthrough and do not have any low audio issue.

You have an optical receiver?

No, this is the integrated acoustic surface system from Sony. It works awesome with DTS. My theory regarding why the issue happens is the same as described here What does enabling passthrough-> optical do, when you are using integrated audio system? - #2 by phoneguyinpgh

when using hdmi passthrough, or disabling passthrough, the audio gets super low, and it is nearly impossible to hear center audio. When I turn on optical passthrough it works great, but then I can not use dolby vision, as described here Bug: no dolby vision when using passthrough optical

It is super easy to test, because I can compare the sound to the built in sony player with dlna in plex. When using passthrough optical in plex it is exactly the same volume levels as in the built in player, but when not using it, it sounds terrible. In one movie the speech was barely audible, so I use that as a case scenario, although it happens on all movies.

Again, I got to stress that I do not want to use passthrough, but it is the only workaround I have found.

Plex customer service has got to be the worst I have experienced ever! And if that is not enough, they keep sending me emails asking why I canceled plex pass. When I reply I am experiencing bugs they don’t even bother replying about, they just reply me they do not provide support, and tell me go to the forum.

Get your ■■■■ together plex!
