I just moved from a desktop pc to a shield as a server, I still use the pc as the storage for my media. Everything works fine, except after adding my content on the new shield, I dont see chapter thumbnails, I do have that option checked in the server settings.
I am just using the internal shield storage, I dont use the shield for anything other then streaming plex.
Does anyone know of any issues, limitations or anything such as generating chapter thumbnails with plex server on the shield?
What do you mean checked? It’s a drop down option.
Sorry, I have it “selected in the drop down” as a scheduled task and when media gets added.
Is their any limitations with the shield using it as a server and these scheduled tasks? The shield is in sleep mode, since I can still access content I assume that does not matter.
I also clicked on the movie section and hit analyze, no change to the thumbnails for chapters.
The chapter info should get retrieved mostly right away when you add them to the library. The images may take a little while to get added. You can check if the chapter info was retrieved by calling up the XML for the video, then adding the term “&includeChapters=1” into the URL.

I do see chapter sections in all my media, just no pictures like i had on my plex server on pc. I just see a black plex logo.
My library is not massive (about 240 movies) and about 1200 episodes of tv, since i dont generate the thumbnails for scrubbing, just the chapter thumbnails. I dont know if additional storage is needed, but I have not found the chapter thumbnails on any piece of media i have spot checked.
If you call up the XML with the chapter info, there will be a URL for the image that goes with each chapter. Replace the current URL with that from the “thumb=” line and see if the image appears. You should be able to tell what needs to be replaced by looking at the text. Don’t forget to include your token and to make that & into a ?.
Just so we are on the same page since this is something I have never had to address before, there is a chapter xml for each chapter? I see an xml button for the movie, but dont see anything for chapters in the plex web player in chrome.
Ok just did a google search to see what a chapter xml file should look like as far as entries (when im home i can fire up my old pc server where chapters worked flawlessly to compare).
I do not see any chapters shown in the xml files on the shield server.
Deleted all my movie files and re added them, now it seems to be working, weird that it didnt occur when my schedule task ran this morning though or trying to analyze the file manually.
