Sydney Australia Freeview Channels Missing - Gracenote Database?

Hello,

Wondering if anyone in Sydney is experiencing the same issue with the Plex DVR in Sydney. I have a total of 5 channels that I am missing because they are not available in the freeview mapping. They include 13 Ten HD, 20 ABC HD, 70 7mateHD, 76 7flix and 94 9life. From my understanding the freeview mapping is provided from gracenote. Is it because they haven’t updated the databse or is because Plex DVR is in Beta?

Is there another way around this or just have to wait?

Other then that Plex DVR is working superbly for me.

Kind regards

This has been an ongoing issue for a while. I participated in the beta fix process, and as a result, Canberra seems to have a perfect result. Unfortunately, they seem to have dropped the ball on the other major capital cities, even though I advised them to compare their EPG to something else on the Internet. (Say, ebroadcast.com.au)

Keep on providing feedback on here, hopefully someone will pick up the angst and fix it.

It’s also missing quite a few in UK Freeview, though luckily it’s mainly +1 channels

It’s not just you, I’m missing those too. It’s a Gracenote thing.

On my ATV4 I run both Plex for “offsite backups” and recording TV and the “Channels” app for live TV. The “Channels” app allows me to change guide provider quite quickly and easily. When I change to Gracenote, I get the exact same options that Plex has (that is to say, the channels you mentioned are missing).

All I’m aware of that we can do is wait as Gracenote needs to fix their s^%$. There is a way to feed your own XML guide in, but it’s fiddly and I’m not sure if anyone has really got it going successfully with a third party Australian TV Guide.

I did come across a XMLTV service called freepg.tv specifically for Australia. Anyone tried them?

I’ve heard of others having success with freepg.tv, although I haven’t personally tried it. Plex has been asking GN to update their channel data, however, it’s really in the hands of GN now.

freepg.tv data is pretty correct. Except some data is padded with a sponsor request.

However the issue remains:

How do you get it into the program guide when the XMLTV import function on Windows (at least) is broken?

Heaps of channels missing here on Sunshine Coast… Have to use Brisbane EPG. No 7Flix at all even in Brisbane.

Plex DVR is basically unusable in Australia.

YEah I’m struggling with a few channels down in Newie as well. Hope some solutions show up soon.

@antigravity83 I think calling it unusable is a bit of a stretch. I’m in Melbourne, and while it’s not perfect, it’s worked for most of the main channels. As I’ve said before though, the devs are aware of the guide issues for Australia, and are seeing what can be done.

Any update on this. I would like to know if there is an eta for resolving this issue or is there a work around that can be put in place. Just signed up for plex dvr and so far it is great but wife not happy as I can’t tape house hunters on 9Life for her lol.

@nixniss Unfortunately, it’s mostly out of Plex’s hands, and up to Gracenote. Plex has asked for improved guides to be provided, but we need to wait on Gracenote for those.

Alternatively, you can use the IceTV guides with Plex DVR, which provides much better data. If you want to know how to link that up with Plex, just drop me a DM.

@nixniss You should now be seeing better data in the Gracenote data for Sydney. Could you let me know how you get on?
