That doesn’t sound correct. Can you recreate and get me the ios log.
Got the same problems with almost all downloads failing with “Error downloading this item” for multiple weeks now (Independent from if I’m trying to download over celluar or Wifi) Both iOS and server logs send over PM.
The end of your log shows the download completed to 100% and then was verified.

That’s odd. Please see attached screenshot that I took of the error (at 20:52) Could it be that the frontend don’t process the verification in a proper manner? After force closing the app it just restarts the entire download.
P.S. There should be a non-public way to share these log files. They share way to much PII data
You can PM the log to me.
Is there an update on this? Most of my media is is using ac3 or eac3
Just downloaded the new iOS App, Downloads still not working.
Same Issues here on android…
please keep on going on building a proper download solution…
Currently I have to give up and download the files out of Plex…
Yes, that is exactly the concern I came here to report.
-
Firstly, Downloading keeps stalling on my Android phone. It will download a few hundred songs and just stop until I re-launch the app, then it will download a few more. This is with the app in the foreground and with the “Downloading” notification animating away.
-
Secondly, the Download was nearing the end when the Downloads page threw an error of “External storage not found. Swipe to remove or tap to retry.” Tapping doesn’t help, I have only internal storage, and there was plenty of room left.
Bugs aside, it looks like this killing of sync is leaving us music lovers behind, as sync had been generally working fine to sync my music library for offline listening, and much of what Downloads promises doesn’t help us that much–transcoding isn’t that big a deal for music.
We really need to be able to have new music synced/downloaded to our phones as we add it. It’s a hassle to have to remember to go find the music on every device and manually hit the download button every time we add an album.
This is a real regression for us.
Can you get me a new log after trying again? Please turn off the verbose logging option first.
Please provide me the logs so we can investigate why it failed.
Here you go…, iOS 15.0.2:
PlexDebugInfo-Tony__T-7.24.1-1350 (2021-10-13 09.44.45 -0400).zip (1.0 MB)
Thanks. Nothing stands out so I’m still leaning towards my initial thinking that there is some incompatibility with iOS 15. I’m upgrading my iPad to 15 so I’ll see if I can reproduce.
@Tony_T - My update to iPadOS15 worked fine and Downloads is ok, so that might not be the issue.
Your logs show the app requested a transcode then sort of stops. Can you get me the PMS logs for that time period if you still have it. I’m wondering if your server failed to transcode but didn’t return an error to the app so the app is just sitting there waiting.
Attached are the PMS Logs
(BTW, In the iOS App, In Settings Downloads, I selected “Download Format → Original”, so should there be transcoding?)
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-10-13_16-11-30.zip (302.0 KB)
It will still transcode if it really doesn’t support the codec. The other settings just block some. There is not way to force no transcode ever.
I’m going to try to PM you a logfile in just a second, but here’s a screenshot of the error I’m getting.
I swiped to remove a few times now and redid the download a few times, always with some delays, and always ending with this error. This time I watched to see how far it got, and it did download all of the files as expected. Then it stopped at number/number downloaded (I forget what the number was), so I guess the download finished?
But this is the error I get after finally getting past that. This time I restarted the app, but other times it switched to this on its own.
That’s Android right? It’s a known issue. It should have actually downloaded and it’s that item showing the error incorrectly. For now, just use the Library tab at the bottom to view your downloaded content.
Unwatched works just fine on Android, but when I try to download a show in the ios app on my ipad, the option to Download unwatched is greyed out as “All episodes.”
I’m basically looking for the functionality with Sync, whereby I had a smart playlist of the unwatched eps of several shows, and synced that to my iPad.
Am I missing something?
I’m not sure what option you are referring to. If you have a Smart Playlist that already filters out unwatched episodes, just Download that playlist. You cannot add additional filters to a Smart Playlist.
