Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"

From trying to research this issue it seems that this has been an on going issue for many years on many platforms.

Will someone from Plex address this? Or is this merely a medium for people to complain?

Can we get a little help here please?!!

Update! I got this to work as it should. I looked on several other threads here on this same issue. Found a post about enabling Android storage permission for Plex app. See post by DarrOlson @ Sync stuck on "Waiting to download" Thank you, DarrOlson! <3

I am experiencing the same exact issue. I have a 128 gig SD card in my phone that i use for pictures and music. The storage location menu within the plex app shows i have about 120GB free, but when i try to sync, ill get somewhere between 1.2 and 2.0 GB and it will say Storage is Full.

I’m a little salty at this, sync has never really worked well in plex. I have tried all the fixes, deleting all content, checking security permissions, uninstalling the app. I even tried screaming and cussing at my phone very loudly hoping to scare it into syncing. no luck.

Can somebody from PLEX please weigh in on this, when it started happening and why, and when they expect to have it fixed ?

I am a new plex user myself and have been having the same issues syncing to my Samsung Galaxy 8+. I have a 64gb external SD card that was newly formatted and had absolutely nothing on it. I uninstalled/reinstalled plex on my droid, unsynced and re-synced my content 10’s of times all with the same result. After about 150 songs and 1.2gb of music transferred, it would just stop and say “Storage Limit Reached”. moving the slider bar back and forth did not result in any more files being transferred.

Fast forward to last night. I uninstalled Plex from the android, found an earlier version (6.something), installed, moved my sync folder to the external drive and started syncing. 10gb and about 500 songs later, my sync was complete!! There is definitely a bug in the 7. versions out there.

My advice if you want to sync items on the android platform, stay away from any version 7’s until the plex team fixes the bug.

The app updated overnight and all of the sync’d content is still visible and able to play off network. I haven’t tried to sync anything else yet.

Hope this helps someone out there.

same issue!

Well, after weeks of ***** around I found a workaround, seems like the only way to make this work is download a v6 of Plex and sync with that. It’s a shame I pay and it doesn’t work like how can they break this while it was fine…

I am a programmer so I know how things work this is just a shame.
Im going traveling and want it to work offline so this workaround is my last resort.

Here’s a little update on my situation. After successfully syncing all of my content with Plex for Android version 6, it automatically updated to version 7 with all of my content still visible. We discovered something called “Premium Music Folder” which you can create if you are a plex pass subscriber. This is the folder that can fingerprint your music and match it up with internet databases.

I recreated my Music folder making it premium and re-added my playlists, deleted the synced content off of my android and re-sync’d using version 7. No issues so far with several hundred songs synced and several gigs of data. I can’t be certain the premium music folder solved this issue, or if it was just syncing the large amount of data under version 6 that fixed the android. Either way, I am syncing without a hitch using the latest version of Plex for the android.

What android version are you using?
Maybe it is related to Android 8, I am using a Note8 with Android 8 I will try another ROM to see if that fixes my issue.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 8+. My sync is working great now. No issues what-so-ever. I uninstalled the Plex app off of my phone, found an older version (not sure exactly which version, but it was the last version 6.x they put out). I synced about 500 songs/10+gb worth of data with no problems. After I sync’d, the phone updated to the latest Plex version and is still syncing with no problems. I almost seems like I needed to populate the storage with something in order for it to “see” that the storage was there. I can pretty much sync up to the limit of my SD card now.

I would try something in the 6.x flavor and see if you get anywhere. I will note that I baby-sit the phone while it is downloading sync’d content. I notice that if the phone locks due to inactivity, the sync seems to pause as well. A quick refresh on the sync and things start moving again.

Hope that helps.

BTW, my husband has a Galaxy 9+ and was having the same issues. I tried to have him downgrade to 6 and re-sync…I don’t know where he is on that right now.

I just deleted everything from my phone and installed a new firmware version on my Note8 I’m installing Plex now so I’ll tell when I got that running and tested.

Alright so I reinstalled it all and it still has the issue.

So what I did is I also made a new library for the music and I added the same folder and let it scan.
When I started syncing it it worked! But it stopped again and I notice it happens with certain artists.

But now I am trying to sync it with my tablet and instead of selecting each artist I am now letting it sync the entire library and convert it all to 320kbps. So far so good…

This is ducking infuriating. Part of the reason why I bought a lifetime Plex pass was because it let’s you sync and store Flac files without downgrading them. Plex really should give a straight answer to why this is an issue. I have ripped nearly all the content in the playlist that’s not syncing properly myself. especially the new stuff that’s been added since that last sync is all ripped by me on the same machine and with EAC like most of the tracks that are apparently OK :frowning:

I noticed that most of the time the app won’t play any files directly from the server anymore. Are you guys experiencing a similar issue as well. Occasionally a file plays, but I’m not sure if that’s because it’s coincidentally already synced or not. Regardless that shouldn’t matter at all when the file is synced without any conversion.

FYI there are now two different posts tracking this storage issue: Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"

I found a fix for one of my devices, oddly it works only on my Note8
I went into the permission settings of Plex app and noticed Storage was disabled.
Then I went and enabled that cleared cache and data, logged into Plex and syncing works fine now.
20GB synced…

On my tablet I did the same thing but there it still hangs after 1 or 2 artists…

Samsung Galaxy S7 with 128gb MicroSD.

This fault also effects me. I have tried all the solutions listed in this thread, none of which worked for me.

I initially thought it was a 2gb limit but I didn’t have this issue with Spotify.

I have had the sync feature working recently after it never having worked on this device. I got tired of having to keep an eye on my data plan. So I formatted the MicroSD and tried syncing various playlists which was successful. I eventually got to a stage where I had synchronized the whole of my 35gb music collection.

I recently invested in a NAS and had to remap all my libraries. This is when the sync feature stopped working. Reformatting the MicroSD hasn’t worked again.

I previously owned a Samsung Galaxy S5 and didn’t have any issues syncing.

I’ve been trying different things with my Note8, always hitting the “Storage Limit Reached” problem, using Internal or External storage.

I’ve restarted phone. Stopped sync, re-did my sync items from the beginning, still would only sync some of it, all of my music items, most would sync but it would stop eventually, not letting all of it at the same time, complex way of saying it, but any combination of items in different order of setting up, it wasn’t any specific music causing the clog.

So then today I cleared cache and data, restarted phone, logged in still wouldn’t sync, Storage Limit Reached.

So I fooled around in Phone Settings App Plex … and decided to move Plex to my External Card … For good measure I Restarted my phone. So then starting up Plex again, I looked at my Plex settings, it was on Internal Storage for Sync, I switched it to External, then set the same exact Playlists to sync, and then worked on a new playlist and added it, and then saw I forgot to change the quality so I edited each sync and chose “original” … it all worked out to sync. All measly 4gb that wouldn’t sync more than about 2.2gb before.

Now I’m syncing a movie, I’ll see if it syncs or not soon.

I’m using whatever the current version of Plex in the Google Play Store is. Not rooted. Good old Samsung Note8 Android 8.0.

My Thor: Ragnarok movie converted and synced. Then I threw Stone Sour - House of Gold & Bones Part 1 at it, instantly/fast synced.

Not syncing (Checkmark)
13.7 GB available

9.7 GB in use

Storage Limit 23.4 GB

I am now stuck on “updating information”.

As I just got a Android device to see if the mobile app was any better then the IOS one I am sad to learn they both suck.

Looks like this has now been fixed on Android with 7.3. It is available on the Google Play store. I have so far synced 3 playlists and several artists (10gb plus).

It’s looking good.
