I have two QNAP devices. Plex server is currently installed on both while I transfer all my media from one to the other.
If I connect to server A, I see all my media and the “Continue Watching” and “Seen” are all correct. When I look on the new library on server B, everything is unwatched. I copied all my media from one device to the other and set on the “Sync My Watch State and Ratings” switch in settings - this was around 3 or 4 days ago.
Am I mistaken in how this is supposed to work? I presumed that if I were signed into both servers they would “keep up”. I was waiting for everything to sync before I take the old server offline. I’m now starting to think that might be mistaken. Anyone have any advice as to how I can achieve this please?
For this to work, both servers need to be signed into the same plex user account.
They also need to have internet connectivity, particularly during the scheduled server maintenance time. https://support.plex.tv/articles/sync-watch-state-and-ratings/
If your second server is only switched on occasionally, it may not have had time to perform the actual sync.
Both QNAP devices are constantly powered on, connected to the net via fibre and are logged on to the same account.
I can see both devices in my Plex side menu when I hit “More”, but the newer one does not show any “Continue Watching” while the old one (which has not been updated for months) does.
I have read just about everything I could about the subject but am drawing a blank.
Verify that both servers have their libraries set to use the new metadata agents.
Sync status won’t work with the old python-based agents, nor with 3rd-party agents.
Verify the “watched” status by going into the library on individual movie’s preplay pages.
Don’t expect Continue Watching to be populated with half-watched items.
