Is there a way to download content from the server of a friend with whom I share and where downloads are permitted? Both of us have set up our share to allow downloads but how do I actually download content from my friend’s server?
“Downloading” refers to getting a local copy of media into a Plex client (e.g. Plex for Mac/Windows, Android and iOS). Within those client apps you have an option to download an item to the apps local storage. Usually this is indicated with a downward arrow button.
Thanks very much. I may not be understanding the terminology correctly. I am wanting to save a local copy to my PC, from the collection of one of the friends I share with. Both of us have downloads permitted in settings. I’m not sure where the “app” is on my PC, as I just go to the ip address for my PMS to access my content and those of the friends with which I share. Can you clarify? I don’t see an option to download or an arrow symbol. The only close option would be to Sync but that seems to be only allowed to my iphone, which is my only mobile device.
Plex doesn’t have support to download copies of movies “for local use”. There’s no option e.g. to download from the browser.
If you want to watch that movie while in a poor-network situation you can install the Plex for Windows app and download the items from within that app.
From what I’ve been reading in the past, this is also to avoid Plex from being used for general file sharing and widely distributing media that’s targeted for personal use only.
