Syncing to iOS

I have been trying to sync content onto my iPad. First off, if I launch Plex on the iPad, go to a video, click the down arrow, choose settings, and try to tap “Save” the save button is disabled and does nothing. There appears to be no way to sync from iOS without using the server’s webface.

If I go through the webface and set something to download it will download. Maybe. Some files have downloaded, but not all. For example, when I downloaded all of Silicon Valley season 2, it skipped 2 of the 10 episodes.

Once a file fails, there seem to be no way to resume it, you can only delete it and try again. If you do that, the server re-transcodes the file.

Am I missing something? Sync seem really unreliable and flakey, but I am prepared for it to be my fault I suppose. This really seems like it should be very straightforward and idiot proof though.

I’ve been a Plex user for 3+ years now and have always had issues syncing to both iOS devices and Android devices. When you are viewing a movie on your device, like your iPad, you should see a little circle to tap to begin syncing the video. When tapped it will ask the quality, I would recommend keeping it at 720 and 4mbps.

Then you should be able to go to the sync menu on your device and see it encoding and then transferring to your device. The issue I have had historically and others, like yourself, is that is appears to stall out towards the end and never transfers. What I’ve also noticed is some movies transfer fine and others just never work, always stall out.

I’m hoping a new client gets released for syncing as it just has never worked well.

Same here - I can flail at the “save” button on the iOS client all day long, but it doesn’t do anything.

Same problem - some files sync fine others I need to try more then once and some just never sync. Sometimes I get the: Error transcoding, sometimes it’s error syncing.
I must add that I’m curently under IOS 10 so I still have hope it will get resolved… but aaron.r.mills doesn’t give me much hope

I was able to sync all 8 episodes of Stranger Things to my iPad with a single tap last week, so maybe it’s working now?

I have a sync issue on an original ipad running the latest ios it can runa nd client. It reports it has sync’d the items. Put ipad in airplane mode, just to ensure that it is local content. No content is displayed. If I search for the items it then finds the video and plays it.

Very weird! The catch of course is you have to keep a list of all sync’d items

There was an old bug that resulted in these symptoms. This was fixed but for the fix to work, one needed to clear all old synced information held at the server end - which needed uninstalling the plex app, deleting the device on plex.tv (Settinsg / Devices menu) http://app.plex.tv/web/app#!/settings/devices and then re-installing the plex app and recreating the syncs
