Server Version#: DSM 7.2.1-69057 update 5
Plex Version#: 1.40.4.8840-70008840
i clicked on update for plex media server last night…and ever since the plex app won’t run. I tried restarting, uninstalling/reinstalling and updating to a newer version downloaded online. NOTHING. so i uninstalled it again and went back to the original download that is broken. Logs.zip (2.5 MB)
Also tried running the PMS permissions script - result said normal…didn’t comeback with an error anyway.
i click run, it says loading, then it says OPEN for 2 second and goes right back to ‘Run’. Says manually stopped at the top. The app won’t open/run.
For those who tried to follow the steps above and were a little confused, you must first click on the Plex Media Server > Synology DSM 7.2.2+ > then you’ll see the Intel/AMD 64-bit option that ChuckPa is referring to. It wasn’t obvious to me at first.
I was kind of freaking out after I updated DSM and Plex just wouldn’t work. Those Synology guys are kind of jerks for not making that part of the DSM update warning about Video Station also not working.
Am I right that there still is no official Plex install for Synology? We’re all doing the manual update thing every few weeks?
Same exact thing is happening - Plex app still won’t run.
Now i am on DSM 7.2.2-72806 and PMS for 7.2.2+ version 1.41.1.9057-72009057
i uninstalled PMS before updating DSM, then installed new PMS version.
Thanks!! Worked perfectly! Really appreciate it. Was a little spooked that Synology disabled so much stuff with the 7.2.2 DSM update but the latest Plex package worked fine.

Well i am unable to ssh to my NAS…permission denied. no matter what i try, new admin account, etc…no luck.
so tried running the repair from the task scheduler…didn’t get an error, but it didn’t fix it either.
tried replacing the db files…to restore. didn’t work either.
Open DSM Control Panel and go to Terminal & SNMP and enable SSH there. Also, you should disable Telnet while you are there if it isn’t already disabled.
If repairing and restoring the Plex database failed, then you have little choice but to uninstall Plex and choose the option to remove all files.
Reboot the NAS and then install the latest version of Plex for DSM 7.2.2+.
Obviously, you will need to rebuild Plex adding new libraries etc., but that should not be too painful.
I very much doubt it was the Plex update alone that caused the issue.
You likely had some level of corruption beforehand and the DSM upgrade tipped things over the edge.
Had you run Chuck’s script before upgrading Plex and DSM, you may have faired better.
In any case, at least now you should have an error free DB and you can rebuild Plex the right way this time, so not all is lost, it’s just a little annoying is all.
i didn’t update the DSM until after it was broken. the update was recommended in installed apps.
but since Chuck recommended the 7.2.2+ version of Plex…i updated it then.
@trumpy81 and it was fine - so not sure what you mean by RIGHT WAY.
there were backups, but replacing that didn’t work either.
Fun thing is, I have a working one sitting beside the broken one. NOT updating that one until this one is fixed…they both don’t need to be broken. But i will be making a full backup of that one before i do anything to it.
I was simply referring to adding the custom posters etc., which IMHO is the right way to do it.
On the subject of rebuilding things, I recently had a HDD fail and during the process of replacing it, I lost yet another drive.
I had to rebuild the entire NAS. It took a solid week just to copy all the files back onto it and of course all my Plex backups were on that NAS, so I lost them too.
Lesson learnt, I now store my Plex backups on the other NAS and my PC … lol
