Synology 7.2.1 Plex app won't run

no worries, it only annoyed me for a minute…but i will be making that file you suggested.

I have a thought. (which sometimes is dangerous – hahah)

I have some writing for you which I need to do but here is the idea.

On the working NAS

  1. Turn off all the automatic library updating (Settings - server - library)
  2. Stop Plex
  3. Install HyperBackup
  4. Make a full backup of the PlexMediaServer shared folder to a “PlexBackup” shared folder. (Hyperbackup will make a single file, complete image, backup)
This also gives you the backup of the working NAS you need

On the non-working NAS

  1. Install HyperBackup
  2. Create the “PlexBackup” shared folder

Now copy the full backup (good machine) → non-working machinw

On the non-working machine

  1. Open HyperBackup
  2. RESTORE the PlexMediaServer backup
  3. When it’s done, run DBRepair and confirm success.

Am I making sense ?

you are. my only problem with that, is they don’t use the same accounts. The libraries are identical, but the accounts are not.

will i be able to ‘edit’ the account info after that without breaking it again. not sure if this will work.

Your Plex account information is stored by Plex, independent of the databases, so you should not encounter any issues with the accounts.

The databases are interchangeable, provided your media files are in the same location on each device and have the same names etc.

Things you’ll need to do after the restore.

BEFORE STARTING – DELETE Preferences.xml

Now you can uninstall Plex on the machine (KEEP option)
Install the same SPK again – HOWEVER
use the “Plex Claim Token” option

(We use the claim token option to avoid Plex/web getting confused)

Once it’s up, edit anything you need to – check ALL your preferences / settings.

After youv’e gone through it to ‘tweak’ it , you can turn it on as live.

other problem is it’s not on 7.2.2 yet. will this be an issue?

where do i get the token from?

That should not be a problem, but you will need to update Plex again as suggested by ChuckPa.

When you use the “Plex Claim Token” method.

There is a hyperlink on the installer menu

“Get Plex Claim Token”

A new brower window will open with the token

COPY it

Return to the installer.

PASTE the token into the box.

Click NEXT - NEXT - DONE

okay…i will install the 7.2.1 PMS version back on my broken one. then do the restore.

but won’t do this tonight…i am tired.

Thanks fellas…i will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

No problem, I hope things go well for you.

Have a good night

IF you have any questions — ASK FIRST

wilco

Sorry, was offline for a couple of days - on this anyway.

Do i want to do this?

Pretty sure i don’t…because it’s from the other device.

No. you do not. A mass-reset will put you in a completely unknown state.

just making sure…thx

Back up and running - and making a full back up of this one now too.

Copying/replacing from the other worked. (now i can update the other one too…)
Thank you both @ChuckPa and @trumpy81

I will get my pics on there updated, the way you recommended, as well.

@Che_da

That’s what we like to hear … success!

If you have any other questions or issues, just let us know and we will do what we can to help.

Enjoy!

Sorry ChuckPa, not so simple! This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version
Regards, Gary

@Poppy-K

When dealing with DSM 7, there are TWO package versions.

  1. DSM7 – DSM 7.0 → DSM 7.2.1
  2. DSM72 – DSM 7.2.2+

Which did you download ? (Look at the filename. Does it containdsm72 ?)
