Synology DS216+II - Playback has stopped because connection to PMS has been lost

Hi All,

Whenever I play any video files from my Plex server I keep on getting the following error message every five/ten minutes:

Playback has stopped because connection to PMS has been lost

I hit retry and everything works again - This seemly has been happening since I had to rebuild my NAS due to a hard drive failure.

I have the following set-up

NAS: Synology DS 216+II
DSM: 6.1.5
PMS: 1.10.0.4523

Everything used to work fine prior to my rebuild. So far I have tried the following to no avail;

  • Manually installing latest version of PMS - 1.11.3
  • Manually installing previous versions of PMS - 1.3.3, 1.4.1, 1.6.1, 1.7.0
  • Setting up a fixed IP for my NAS on my Virgin Media super hub 3
  • Changing NAS DNS settings to 8.8.8.8

Scratching my head as what to try next. Can anyone please help as this is driving me crazy. A side effect is also I have to manually restart my PMS via Package centre every 2 days or so because it stops. I’ll try and add log files to this post as well.

Do you know you’re running the 32 bit version of PMS when you could be running the 64-bit version?
If you downloaded through Package Center, that’s why you have the 32 bit. Synology does not make the 64 bit version available.

For as strange as it may be, you have no ethernet adapters defined. In order to get these logs, at least one is working. I suspect a broken ethernet connector clip / bad cable making it appear unplugged
