Synology DS218+ does not read custom Chromecast.xml

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
DSM Version#: DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 1

Hi!
I have a 1st gen Chromecast and Plex Server on my Synology DS218+. I have had som troubles with no audio on AAC 5.1-media when casting from Android phone on another Plex installation, which were solved by adding “ac3” in Chromecast.xml and I tried to do the same thing on the Synology:

<VideoProfile protocol="http" container="mkv" codec="h264" audioCodec="aac,mp3,ac3" context="streaming" />
<VideoAudioCodec name="aac,mp3,ac3">

Standard is

<VideoProfile protocol="http" container="mkv" codec="h264" audioCodec="aac,mp3" context="streaming" />
<VideoAudioCodec name="aac,mp3">

On the other installation this works like a charm. It is a mac mini with the same Server version as the Synology. Every setting looks the same on the mac mini and the Synology. But it seems like the Synology does not read my custom Chromecast.xml.

I have tried:

  1. To change the Chromecast.xml stored in /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Profiles
  2. To add Chromecast.xml in Synology GUI in this location: \DISKSTATION\Plex\Library\Application Support\Plex Media Server\Profiles (created the Profiles folder) and the user “plex” is the owner of the folder.
  3. To add Chromecast.xml via SSH to /volume1/\Plex\Library\Application Support\Plex Media Server\Profiles and then run sudo chown plex /Chromecast.xml
  4. Edit Chromecast.xml in /var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Resources/Profiles

I have restarted the Plex service after every step and I have tried restarting the NAS too, no luck.

Please! Tell me what I have done wrong :slight_smile:

Changing the distribution file /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Profiles

  1. Does not persist between versions
  2. Isn’t supported for reason #1 above :slight_smile:

The supported solution, which does transfer supporting that profile to your responsibility, is:

  1. Create directory Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles
  2. Place the file there
  3. Check its Properties to verify user plex can read it
  4. Restart PMS

And the supported solution, I think, is what I have done in option 2 and 3 above? And it does not work, unfortunately.

Like I wrote above it works perfect on my other plex installation, so I do not understand why it would be a problem?

Happiness! The “solution”:
Uninstall Plex
Delete all remaining Plex folders
Install Plex again
Re-create Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles
Place Chromecast.xml in the folder
Set the user “plex” as owner of both the folder and the Chromecast.xml file
Win!
