After the latest update, hardware transcoding isn’t working anymore on my synology. No playback, black screen on player.
Error message: [Transcode] [FFMPEG] - libva: /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed
I’ve forgotten to mention it. I’ve tried that already but it didn’t work.
I’ve added "VaapiDriver=“i965” again to be sure:
The mentioned transcoding error in log is gone, but unfortunately its still not working.
The player stays black and no playback is starting.
I’ve attached logs with “VaapiDriver” set.
I’ve resetted the permissions but the Failed to add watch errors still remain.
The share isn’t the default video share from synology. I’ve removed the default share and created a own one named “Video”.
For testing, I’ve created a new Share Media and moved the season I’m testing with (Game of Thrones Season 3).
HDR tone mapping in fact wasn’t disabled.
I’ve disabled it now but behavior didn’t change.
Yes i limited the resolution at client to enforce transcoding. Direct play works without problems. Bandwith isn’t also the problem.
The problem came out with an other client (remote Samsung TV Client). I only enforce transcoding on my local client to reproduce the Problem (Plex for Windows Client)
A few days before (before the latest server update), hardware transcoding worked without problems. VaapiDriver=“i965” wasn’t set. I did not change any settings (at least not consciously), just made the update.
Yes. The problem came out yesterday with GoT S03E02. But in my Tautulli history I could see, that with GoT S02E09 for example, hardware transcoding worked yesterday morning (before the update).
So I tried it, but it didn’t work. I’ve tried also a few movies.
I’ve also tried with IOS Plex Client, the same behavior.
That’s why I thought, the server update yesterday afternoon could be the problem.
If I disable hardware transcoding and use software transcoding, everything works.
Thanks! If theres anything else I could try or provide logs for, just ask.
After a complete restart of the Synology, transcoding is working again as expected.
I was sure, I’ve restarted the synology yesterday also.
It works even, if VaapiDriver=“i965” is not set.
Just the Apr 22, 2021 11:03:38.202 [0x7f284d4e3700] ERROR - [Notify] Failed to add watch for "/volume1/Video/Filme/Fast && Furious - Neues Modell. Originalteile. (2009)" (13: Permission denied) messages remain in the log.
How could I get rid of them? I’ve done a permission reset as you described.
Or can I ignore them?
The error in my post was only an example I copied from your post, therefore the same timestamp.
But after deleting the log file and restart the plex server, the messages appears again.
It seems to me, that the mentioned folders are always the same. But I checked the permissions of the mentioned folders and the user plex has r/w rights.
And in case of a series, the error seems to appear only at the root folder of the series.
For example:
