Hello All,
My current setup:
- Synology DS918+
- 1 SHR Volume with (4TB + 8TB + 8TB)
- Total 5.2 TB of data
I notice that my Plex interface is slow to load. Reading up, it looks like an SSD Cache wont help this much. Instead, moving Plex to a SSD volume in drive bays (not the the M2, which is only for caching) will help load Plex faster.
Questions:
- I would like to remove the first 4TB drive from the SHR volume1. This was my first drive. Will removing the 4 TB drive leave me 8TB storage with 8 TB protection? I understand storage will go down from 12 TB down to 8 TB, which is fine as I only have ~5 TB of data right now.
- I would like to install 2 SSD (one for protection) in drive bays as volume1 for applications and Plex metadata, and make the 2 HDDs as volume2 for media storage. What is the best way to do this with having to recreate the whole thing. This is what I plan to do based on reading this.
- Shutdown
- Remove the 2 HDDs
- Install 2 SSDs in drive bays 1 and 2 (make them volume1)
- Install DSM
- Install Plex
- Shutdown
- Add the 2 HDDs ( Question 3 : Will my application shared folders (eg. Plex) still show up?)
- Startup again and stop plex
- Move existing Plex metadata from HDD volume to SSD volume.
Would appreciate your input and response to my questions. Thanks for your time.
