I am trying. touse my Synology NAS with Plex media server but every time I do an install of the beta or firmware download from plex directly keeps telling me I do not have access to the server or anything. I have set the permissions in the shared folder but nothing does anyone know how to help?
Using the DSM 7 app provides a method to repair that in the Installer.
Uninstall the application – use the KEEP option
Install the same SPK file again
a. Select the “Plex Claim Token” option
b. Click “Get Plex Claim token” hyperlink
c. The browser will open and present a token. Copy it.
d. Return to the installer window
e. Paste the token in the window
f. Click Next and continue installing.
g. It will require an additional 15-20 seconds for the installer and Plex.tv to communicate.
When it returns, the final popup will tell you the server was “claimed” to your account and show your Plex account name.
You may now press Control F5 on the Plex/web browser to make it reload.
In addition to Trumpy’s excellent instructions, you can also look in the Synology Package Center.
Login to your NAS, open the Package Center, click on Installed, find Plex Media Server and click on Open. This will open a new browser window for you to login to Plex Media Server.
On a Synology, whenever you see an IP address which starts with 169.254.x.x, it means the ethernet cable is not plugged into that port and it doesn’t actually have a valid address.
I presume you have another adapter in the machine.
Control Panel → Network → go to that adapter which is your main adapter.
Make certain it’s got got box checked to make it the default gateway.
