Synology DVR w/ HDHomeRun CONNECT Duo - wont record?

OK, wife wanted to record Olympics so after some research I decided to try a HDHomeRun CONNECT Duo - it seemed to be a good solution. Don’t watch much TV at our house.

Plex is on my Synology DS412+ which supports transcoding.
I have Plex Pass (obviously) but I did not purchase HDHomeRun DVR software yet.

Set up DVR in Plex and it looks good. Then when it comes to a show to record, it shows a “transcoding error”. When I start another recording - it looks like it’s working - only to stop in a few minutes. Even after a couple of trial recordings over night (who knew Night Court was still on?) and trying to figure it out, looks like nothing is saved on my server.

I read through quite a few “transcoding error” posts but nothing seems to be the same / works for me.

Do I need to purchases HDHomeRun’s software in addition to plex pass? Is there another setting I’m missing?

No you do not need the HDHR software for it to work here.
What version of Plex are you running?

There is a buried option to turn on transcoding which you should not need under your DVR -

Where is the dialog box for turning off transcoding? Feel like I’ve been through everything but must have missed it :slight_smile: Thanks!

Says that I’m running Version 3.31.1.


OK, so here’s a bit of an update - tried that and here is where I am:

The first show only recorded 11 min. the next two shows are at 100% but I can’t play them from within plex or on my plex app on my smart TV.

I’m kinda pulling my hair out.
Does the HDConnect software do a better job? I hate to pay for more software but I’m loosing my mind here.

So sid the science kid is only 11 minutes and the next 2 show 100% but never showed up in the library?

That’s correct. And tried a third recording since last post and it’s also at 100% but not in library.

So there was a known issue with recordings showing 100% which means they are hung.

I know it’s frustrating but I’d suggest you disable that transcoding, restart Plex and try a new recording.

The version you are on has many fixes for this so hopefully a fresh start after settings will help.

Please try that and see what you get and we can keep looking if it continues after.

I had a similar issue with a new HDHomeRun Prime and Plex whereby many scheduled recordings would be only about ~6min in length. I believe some recordings completed though.

In this case, the issue wasn’t exactly with the HDhomeRun or Prlex but rather the combination under the given firmware.

Keep in mind it was a new HDHomeRun Prime but the firmware was old. Once I updated the the HDHomeRun Prime’s Firmware this issue of incomplete recordings simply went away.

If you haven’t already I would strongly suggest you check your firmware and updated it.
