I have googled the issue, checked youtube and I’m not given the server setup section when setting it up.
Plex was working fine and there was a power failure and plex wouldn’t connect correctly, so I disconnected plex from the NAS. Now I can’t get them to see one another.
if you have “lost” the server (lost control of it in your account), because of the complete rewrite of packages & storage on Synology for DSM 7, I’ve created an semi-automated method of reclaiming it.
The procedure is:
Make certain you’re using the latest SPK file from the Preview thread. The Synology Package center version did not have this capability last I checked.
Uninstall the package and KEEP your data (the default)
Install the new SPK using the Plex Claim Token method.
a. Click “Get Claim Token”
b. Copy it from Plex.tv
c. Paste it into the text window provided.
d. Continue with the installation.
Remember to grant permission for user PlexMediaServer to read the shared folders.
DSM 7 forced us to abandon user “Plex”
We have no privilege now to remove it.
Please delete user Plex from Control Panel - Users at your convenience.
I’ve granted full permission to the PlexMediaServer on every folder and share, and double-checked everything. I made sure to Apply to both folders, sub-folders and files. But, I still receive the Error: “PlexMediaServer does not have Full Control of existing Plex share.” I’m not sure what I could be missing. I’m installing Plex Media Server - 1.21.1.3906 - X86_64.
It’s complaining because of the Plex share. The error message is very specific.
The steps it gives you are also specific. You must perform those steps in the given sequence if you wish to migrate your existing PMS installation to DSM 7.
You might want to screenshot the procedure it prints so you have it to refer to ?
Here are the screenshots to verify what you should have after performing the steps in the migration permissions
Of special interest here are is establishing Full Control of the Plex share for System Internal UserPlexMediaServer.
As you apply this privilege it is important that you ensure the permission changes are applied to all subfolders and files in the Plex share.
Where you select “System Internal User” and start assigning custom.
When the installer sees “Full Control” status on the Plex share, it will inspect deeper. If everything is correct, it will perform the migration.
a. Check all metadata for errors and correct it before migrating.
b. Check Subtitles files and Collections info - verifying internal integrity.
c. Move all the data files from “Plex” to the new DSM storage structure
d. Clean up all Plex-generated residuals in the Plex share if there.
At no point will the installer remove any user data unless it’s buried inside the “Application Support” directory. (nothing should ever be here).
Some users like to put media in “Library” (which is a common condition I take care not to erase).
The rest of the Plex share is free for everyone to use or not as they wish.
For whatever reason, these screenshots and instructions don’t match my setup. For example, I do not see a Custom checkbox option. There are other differences also.
Here is what I did to get Plex working in my DSM 7 environment.
Rename the original Plex folder to Plex.old
Install new beta version of Plex (install succeeded)
Open CLI and rename the freshly installed PMS config folder to PMS-orig
Move old PMS config folder to the fresh installed location
I found the new config folder at ‘/volume1/@apphome/PlexMediaServer/Plex Media Server’
