Synology Plex Media Server Disconnecting Often

Why does Plex Media Server for my Synology DS 916+ keeps disconnected and not able to find the server?

This happens after I’ve updated to the latest Plex Media Server for Synology.
I have to keep restarting my DS916+ then Plex will work. But after awhile, Plex can’t find my server again.

I’ve tried deleting the Preferences file but it’s still not working. This is reall fustrating…

I never had such issues before…

Someone please help…

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the Plex share.
  2. File Station - Plex - Library - Application Support - Plex Media Server
  3. Right click Logs
  4. Compress to Logs.zip
  5. Please attach the ZIP file here

I have attached the Logs. Can you check and let me know why is it disconnecting often?

Would you please turn Verbose logging back off and recreate ? It generates too much information for the default buffer to hold. I was almost there and what I needed to see had rolled off. (See blue sticky to the right -->)

It has always been off before I created the zip file. I just checked and it shows “Disabled”.

Edit: Sorry. I’ve found the checkbox on Verbose. I’ve deleted all my logs, start fresh install and unchecked Verbose. Attached is my log file. If it don’t show what was happening, then I’ll wait till the server can’t be found issue and post it back here.

Do let me know if the attached log file helps.

A. It’s still verbose.

B. I only get a partial log set… I see it’s manually captured. Can you capture the full set, without deleting anything before, via Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs

Please see attached. Not sure if verbose is still in there. If so can you let me know the steps to disable it properly?

Thanks… That got it.

Now I can see what’s happening as you’re playing.

I see the iPad playing. I next see it commanded to stop because the connection is lost (error 104 below). Since it’s an iPad, the most likely cause is a jammed full (busy) wifi or signal is too weak and the iPad has to hunt for a new radio channel. When it switches, playback will be interrupted.

How far from the Wifi ? 2.4 or 5 Ghz? B? G? N? AC?

The problem is not about the iPad. It’s about the media server keep disconnecting itself.

Any device also can’t detect it when that happens. I’ve tried tvOS, Windows Plex and all are not detecting it when it suddenly disconnected from Synology. Synology internet connection is working thou. Plex media server is intermittent on staying online.

But are you saying the iPad is causing the media server to be disconnected from my Synology?

Maybe I’m not understanding what you mean by Why does Plex Media Server for my Synology DS 916+ keeps disconnected and not able to find the server?

PMS is running on your Synology. What does your Synology disconnect from? Itself? Your LAN? This is the piece I’m not understanding.

The Synology is always connected via LAN and it’s online.

PMS previously was connected and online. But sometimes it suddenly goes offline when Synology have no issue with its connection.

There are times when my friends or I wanted to watch something from my PMS but it shows searching for server and end up the server is not found.

I always need to restart my Synology in order for PMS to be online again and to be detected by all the Plex apps or programs.

Thank you for explaining that further.

Having gone through your logs, I see the ATV 4K playing as well. I see several playback sessions. Everything is without error with exception of the one iPad disconnecting.

I need to ask you to capture the logs the next time it faults again. Immediately after you restart PMS, grab the full set of logs like you did above and attach it here again. I’ll expect to see the error in Plex Media Server.1.log

ok i will do that once it happens again. Thanks you.

Hi. It happens again. PMS got disconnected and any devices can’t search for it.

Have downloaded the log after doing a reboot on my synology.

Please let me know how to fix it.

Is the Synology VM still in beta? Last I looked it was. Please advise (My DiskStation does not support VM)

Regarding your PMS, your Synology network adapters / network itself are shutting down

Notice here where your ethernet adapter is no longer visible

Hi.

I’m not using VM in my Synology.

You say that my network adapters/network itself are shutting down. But when PMS got disconnected, my Synology is still accessible remotely.

How can I solve this issue?

The last I saw ovs_eth0 is when the Virtual Switch was enabled in DSM.

It is only required for using VMs.

Can you disable the virtual switch, restoring you configuration to normal, and restarting DSM or do you have a requirement it be enabled ?

Hi. Do you know how can I disable the virtual switch? I’m not sure how to do it…

Control Panel

Ok. I have turned it off. Let’s see if that works.

Thank you!
