Synology PMS Versioning and Plugins Folder Not Found

Server Version#:1.18.8.2461
Player Version#:Plex for Mac 1.6.3.1009-57cf57c8

Since updating PMS on our Synology 1010+ from version 1.18.5.2309 to 1.18.7.2457 (and all updates up to 1.18.8.2461), the Plex player continues to report an update is available and that the installed version of PMS is 1.18.5.2309. More worrying is that the Plex server logs are filling with errors relating to unfound files/folders in the plugins folder and no cover art updates are performed. In order to correct this problem I have to rename the plugins folder to “Plug-ins-f5213a238” after each update. I am sure others must be having this problem - has anyone got any ideas about how to rectify it?

This is the first I’ve heard of this type problem (Plug-ins being stuck)

Where are your Plug-ins-xxxxxxxx directory?
They should be under the package itself, specifically at:

admin@moesern:/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/Resources$

PMS was complaining about access to /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Plug-ins-f5213a238

Uninstall the package fully.

This is a totally safe operation.
The code is stored in /volume1/@appstore
Your metadata is kept separately in /volume1/Plex
I do not remove metadata when uninstalling.

Correct.

If you are in at the shell now,

Remove via the GUI.
Make certain there is no /var/packages/Plex Media Server directory left over.

Will do. Then reinstall?

Having removed via the GUI,
And verified there is no /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server

Go ahead and reinstall.

OK so uninstalled. Folders are gone. Reinstalling now…

On manual package install I get a message regarding a port 32400 conflict with another application. I assume I will now need to reboot our NAS?

Ah yes. DSM has not yet let go of the port assignment .
Please do reboot DSM.

OK this will take a little while.

My son needs network for uni work so wont get a chance to reboot until later today. Will respond in this thread when done. Tx for help so far.

No problem.

As FYI, Given enough time, DSM will let go of the port. If his Uni studies will take some time, DSM should let go of the port itself.

I was just checking that as you were writing…

OK so killed all running Plex processes, reinstalled and PMS is back up and running. Plex client reports latest version number.

…and just done a media scan and all unindexed content is now picked up. Great result…tx again.

Excellent!
