This issue has recurred several times over the last 6 months. In the past I’ve been able to get it resolved after about an hour of resetting everything: NAS, Roku, router, laptop (Windows 10), iPad AND logging out of my PMS account and back in again & reclaiming my server. But this time nothing has worked.
It manifests when accesssing my Synology DS918+ PMS from either Chrome or Firefox on my Windows 10 laptop or my iPad (note that all clients have been updated as well). In all cases, the server sees and retrieves my audio music library and sees and selects the Roku player successfully. However, as soon as I press the play button for any file, it not only fails to play the song (even though the sound level bars appear and fluctuate as though it is playing), but it immediately causes the Plex app on the Roku to exit. I suspect it is exiting the app first which then causes it not to play but I’m not positive about that. Note that all music in the Synology library can be played directly from and through the Roku; it is only when casting music to the Roku from another device (i.e., laptop or iPad) that it fails.
This was never a problem prior to about 6 months ago. No other settings have changed from when I was able to listen in this manner successfully. Specifically:
- Allow fallback to insecure connections: Always (Web Client->General)
- Secure Connections: Disabled (Server->Network)
- Remote Access is enabled through a specific public port & router configured properly
