Hello,
i want replace my Synology (NEW Synology, new hdd and new RAID).
Can I move my shares contents files and Plex in the NEW Synology ?
I don’t want make a refresh scan of my totally library
Thank’s
You can take all the drives, as they are, from the existing Synology to a new one.
That process only involves Synology Assistant to help you install the right DSM version on your migrated disk drives.
If you want to create a new raid volume on those same drives then obviously yes you’ll need to copy the content from old to new after the raid is created (easily done over the network but it might take some time)
As for migrating Plex, everything which “is” your server (all the configuration settings, account, and metadata for all your media is stored under “Library” inside the “Plex” share.
DSM stores the program itself in the App store area. This makes migrating easy – Copy the old Plex share “Library” folder to the new Plex share (a ZIP file is usually the easiest as well as the fastest) .
If you place all your media on the same volume structure on your new NAS,
then you won’t need make any changes.
If, however, you’re restructuring your drives (e.g. individual drives -> single raid) then there are a few steps to take before shutting down PMS on the old NAS.
We have this all written out if you like. It’s not complicated but is fairly detail rich.
