Tags help with organizing the content can you give a little bit more details on what you are trying to do. This sounds like what I do for some of my videos but i just use chapters in the video itself. you do have me curious though.
Lets say I have 20 training videos to study math. Each video is about 4 hours long and it covers about 10 important topics including formulas. Lets call them topic A, B, C - etc. There are 20 videos in total so as you can see a lot of hours of training. Lets call videos: video 1, 2, 3 - etc.
Problem: I want to find topic B in video #7 by searching for it and I want this to take me to the exact topic within the video so I don’t have to search through everything.
You need to embed those chapter markers into the video.
(I only know how to do it with MKV files. There is also a way to use chapters in mp4 files, although I don’t know if they can be ‘named’ like in MKV)
Plex will pick them up and you can jump from chapter to chapter.
On some clients, Plex will even show their chapter titles.
Here is an example from the web app:
Yes. Plex doesn’t change your media files.
So an external tool needs to be used.
This is a pro, IMHO. It ensures that those chapter markers will survive a server database crash and even the switch to a completely different player software.
