Television extras organization

Currently, I name by extras for television shows s00eX### where X is the season number and everything is just numbered sequentially from there.

It’d be great if Plex could read something like, s01e01x01 and have that appear as an extra on that episode’s page. Maybe s01e00x01 could show up on the season page for those extras that don’t really apply to specific episodes.

Right now, having everything in the Specials folder is requiring me to scroll item by item through, sometimes, a couple of hundred items to get to extras from later seasons. It’d be great to be able to tie that stuff to episodes and seasons instead of just shows.

You might want to look into the beta for the new/future Plex tv-show scanner/agent which provides native support for local extras (not just mistreated specials).
Extras can be added similarly as for movies on show/season levels. Episode extras are a bit more tricky for now.

Example:

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
  Show Name
    Season XX
      Show Name - sXXeYY.ext
Show Name - sXXeYY-deleted1.ext <- episode extra (numbered)
Show Name - sXXeYY-deleted2.ext <- episode extra (numbered)
Show Name - sXXeYY-behind.ext <- single episode extra
Behind the Scenes <- season XX extras folder
        Gag Reel.ext
Trailers <- show level extras folder
    Show Trailer.ext
Clean Opening Titles-other.ext <- other show level local extra (inline)

Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t look like Season level extras are ready yet.

I just made a folder in /Season04 of /Deleted Scenes with items like The Office (US) - s04e401 - Deleted Scenes ep 1-6-deleted but it shows up at the Show level, not the Season level. I’m also guessing I no longer need the Title or fake episode number.

Looks like you’ve been mixing things up a bit…

The following structure should be working fine. Keep in mind though that currently you only get to see those extras on a few clients (e.g. Android / iOS for extras on all tiers, Apple TV for show/episode extras – most other clients will only show extras on show level). I suppose your naming threw Plex off a bit…

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
  The Office (US)
    Season 04
      Deleted Scenes
Deleted Scenes Episodes 1-6.ext <- deleted scene extra on season level (4)
The Office (US) - s04e07-deleted.ext <- deleted scene extra on episode level (4x07)

Taking the now unnecessary show title + sXXeXX from the original file, it now shows as a Season extra on iOS. I was hoping support was in the beta for tvOS, but I guess not. Thanks for your help.

Is this not available in 1.23.0.4459 or am I just doing something wrong.

To test, I pulled two items from Season 1 of 24; Keifer Sutherland’s Season 1 Introduction & the alternate ending to the season finale.

In the Season 01 folder, I created a ‘Scenes’ folder and added ‘Scenes’ to the file name. So I have…

Drive-> TV → 24 → Season 01 → Scenes → Scenes Keifer Sutherland Season 1 Introduction.mkv

I put the alternate ending in with the regular episodes and named it ‘24 - s01e24 - Deleted Scenes.mkv’ so that I have:

Drive-> TV → 24 → Season 01 → 24 - s01e24 - Deleted Scenes.mkv

Neither are showing up. Nothing new in the season screen or the episode screen.

Is it only in a 1.22 beta or am I doing something wrong?

  1. make sure you’re using the “Plex TV Series” scanner/agent for your library
  2. after adding those files… don’t forget to refresh the metadata of the show
  3. remember, not all clients are capable to display local extras on all levels at the moment (e.g. Plex Web will only show the show-level extras) → to see both your additions, you’ll need to check the season/episode on an Android phone or an iOS device

Edit:
You probably need to adjust the name for the alternate ending:

TV <- folder linked to your tv-show library
  24
    Season 01
      ...
      24 - s01e24.mkv <- the regular episode file
      24 - s01e24-deleted.mkv <- the local extra for episode 24

Thanks!

Just before going to bed, I opened Plex up on the Roku and saw the Season 1 introduction.

The way I had it (incorrectly) named, the alternate ending was showing up as a second file for that episode. I fixed the name, changing it to ‘24 - s01e24-deleted.mkv,’ but it’s still not showing up on Roku or Android.

I didn’t realize the web wasn’t updated to show these. That was definitely my initial problem. I have over 200 items in 24’s ‘Specials’ folder. So even if I can’t break it down to individual episodes, being able to move a lot of that to the seasons will be nice.

edit: Just went back to Android and the episode’s deleted scenes are showing. I had re-scanned and refreshed metadata, but maybe I checked too soon or didn’t refresh the android app’s page?
