All of a sudden with the new TV Series Scanner local extras no longer show up. This was working perfectly with the plugin/agent provided by “contrary_cat” as described here-
My files are named correctly (same as local extras for Movies). No new extras are showing up. And if I refresh metadata I lose the local extras I have. It’s very ridiculous for Plex to push out a new series scanner while not insuring compatibility and seamless integration with the existing framework.
Let’s curb it down a notch – no need to panic
How did you check the extras are gone / not recognized? Currently only the Plex apps on Android (mobile) and iOS will display local extras for tv-shows on all levels (show, season and episodes). The Apple TV client will show local extras on show and episode level – from what I’ve seen so far, all other clients will only show extras on the show level.
If I remember correctly, the 3rd party agent used to aggregate extras on the show level – at least I remember having to deal with some of them getting stuck there at some point when playing around with it.
I’m only trying to get them to show up on the show level. I can’t get them to show up on any user interface. The files themselves are still there (and all named appropriately).
Please fix this in the next update. All my files are named appropriately with the suffix “-deleted” “-behindthescenes” “-featurette” etc. Works fine for movies, just not for the TV Shows anymore since Plex introduced this new scanner.
I’m aware. You wrote " the media folder" does that not refer to my Plex folder (where the database is stored) or are you referring to the folder where movies, music, etc would be stored? I think you could’ve been more specific with your instructions.
I’m also pretty doubtful that this is going to solve the issue and it would be far more appreciated if you guys could just admit you pushed out this update to the TV scanner without fully testing it. I see no reason why the new TV Series Scanner should undo the agent created by “contrary_cat” which worked great.
I’d like to know when a fix to the crappy new TV series scanner is going to be implemented. Until then I’m not doing anything.
This entire thread is ridiculous. At no point did I say I had media stored with my Plex Database folder.
This lack of support especially for longtime Plex Lifetime Pass holders is very disappointing and is honestly revealing an all together different problem. You have provided no help to my original issue.
Hello ChuckPA. Will do. I would like to point out though that in your screenshot you have extras arranged into a folder for specials. That’s not how local extras had been working up until now with the agent created by “contrary_cat.” Prior to Plex’s new tv series scanner I was able to have an entire tab beneath cast/etc that showed Extras.
This is something that we know has been requested for a while so it’s now officially supported in Plex Media Server 1.22.0 with the Beta TV agent with more extended support rolling out to clients in future updates.
Certain clients do not yet fully support TV extras, but keep an eye out on our forum as our support pages will be updated once official support is available.
Currently the only clients that fully support extras at all levels are the mobile iOS and Android apps. Other apps like the Web client, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku have limited support while the modern TV interface for Smart TVs does not yet have support for any local TV extras.
Then let’s get specific – can you please share the following details?
how are those local extras named / organized in your file system (folder structure and file naming inside the tv-show folder)?
which version of PMS do you have installed on your platform – you’ve mentioned the version of the desktop client. From your posts I take it you have it installed on DSM 7?
What’s the specific configuration of that library (from ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit → Advanced); in particular:
Well… there you go.
Plex does not read from a folder named Extras.
Try something like this instead:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Star Trek The Next Generation
Deleted Scenes
Deleted Scene 1.ext
Deleted Scene 2.ext
...
Deleted Scene X.ext
OR
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Star Trek The Next Generation
Deleted Scene 1-deleted.ext
Deleted Scene 2-deleted.ext
...
Deleted Scene X-deleted.ext
All right this seems to have done the trick, but I just want to say it looks super messy on my file system and what’s annoying is that the extras don’t get laid out in numerical/alphabetical order. At least they show up now. I think it’s really bizarre that a third party developer was able to create something on their own for free that functioned better than this.
Thank you for your help and thank you for the heads up DSM 7.0. I will hold off on upgrading until there’s a proper process for migrating from DSM 6.2 to 7.0
