So I as many others have had issues with the ps5 plex app where when it’s on direct stream it causes stutter every couple seconds to image is awful to look at since it’s not smoothing but having the content be transcoded is a way around fixing this problem but it brings you into a new problem being you run into constant buffering issues. Even if it’s playing fine without pausing you may still get “buffering” show up on the screen every few seconds.
So I was fiddling around and it didn’t matter what quality (20MBps, 10, etc) I had this on globally I would still run into this issue. Then I found the solution.
When you’re watching a video, go into the settings on that video and look at your video transcoding quality and manually change it on that video to one notch down. I’ve tried this on two different scenarios and it fixed buffering on both of them.
Scenario 1: Video is transcoding at 10.2Mbps, I change it in that videos setting to 10Mbps and it will play perfect without any buffering issues.
Scenario 2: Video is transcoding at 8.1Mbps, I change it to 8Mbps option and it plays perfect without any buffering issues.
Not really sure what’s going on since this to me highlights a bug in the software and not any limits the server hardware since the 8.1Mbps should work fine if that was the case but it doesn’t. Somehow though just changing it below the amount the video is actually transcoding at to a pre-existing? setting seems to fix it.
Hopefully the devs fix both this issue but more importantly the direct stream stutter issue so I can go back to that which is the better option.

I have had a PS5 for about 20 days, I use it a lot for plex like in the 4.
Say that the latest version of plex on ps4 was slow, it took like 3-4 min to load the library but then everything was fine.
On the other hand, in the PS5 version it is the other way around, the app goes like a quick shot, 0 waits and navigating very well, but I have the following problem, in movies that weigh a little (micro hd 7-9gb) it fails a lot, Randomly the movies with the message (buffering) are stopped and there it freezes, to return I have to exit the movie, main menu and reload it. In 4 this does not happen with the same files.
Say by info, that the server is on the same local network through a qnap.
I do not know if it is a failure of the PS5 version, or if you have to touch some setting (being local) that can avoid that, because it is a bit insufferable (especially since they are children’s movies, and these have little patience)

can you explain me why cheap raspberry 4 plex app in kodi, has no problem to stream 4k hevc bluray 4k quality mkv file, and damned 10 terraflops 500 euros new ps 5 is buffering in plex ! you have no excuse at all except telling us to lower the quality and transcode ?. it buffers even you have a 1 gb fiber connection ! what kind of excuse that samsung tv plex app can handle 4k bluray mkv file in plex and not buffering, and ps5 is even more buffering than ps4 ?
What kind of fake excuse is that ? please do a better app in order to handle quality in ps5 !
