PS5 Buffering Problem (Direct Stream /Direct Play not working)

Hello,
my PS5 App is not working correctly. Buffer appears very often and i have to set the Quality on the App to 4mBit to get rid of that problem.
I have tried to deactivate Video Transcoding, then the app is playing nothing.
It is equal what kind of video and what kind of original quality.

My Setup:
Windows 10 with the latest Server
Hardwired with CAT8 cable
The Taskmanager was showing a peak from 0.6Gbit, when a 4k Video was playing.
If i use the plex DLNA on my TV the 4k Video is playing without problems.

It seams that the App didnt allow direct play or direct stream. (Both is activated on server and Player App Side) => I Think this is the main problem.

Does someone has this problem too, or is this problem well known and will be fixed soon?

I have a PS5 and I’m having the same issues. All content (mostly 1080p but also 720p) is continuously Buffering rendering the PS5 Plex app un-useable

I have tried everything Nick has tried above. All other devices work fine with the media server. There are no issues with my network either. I’ve also tried hardwiring. Nothing works, it still will not play the media.

Running Windows 10
Plex Media Server Version 1.21.1.3876 (latest)

Searching around the web looks as though this is a serious problem for all PS5 plex users. As I’ve sold my PS4 I have no other way of accessing my library, it seems backwards buying other hardware just to run Plex when I have a state of the art console.

When will there be a fix for this??

Change the quality to Original and enable transcode back

This is a serious flaw in the PS5 app right now, direct play = 100% unusable. Doesn’t matter what the quality of the original file is even if 480i, the direct play playback eventually does random “buffering” and then eventually freezes, and crashes. I hope they are on top of fixing this because my 2 year old LG TV on WebOS can direct play anything, even 80GB BluRay rips over WiFi.

Get it done guys, you need to be riding this PS5 hype-train out the gate, you are getting a lot of visibility being a launch app on the PS5 and getting these serious issues fixed is critical in the beginning before people just give up on it.

That is not working, original quality setting buffers every 20sec.

But when you change to original quality is plex transcoding?

With the new plex ps5 version still unuseable.
No buffering but an turning circle…
With plex server on tv all is ok

Any video for more than 12 mbps will just continuously buffer every 20-30 seconds. Why is that happening?

When will be a fix available, that makes plex useable on ps5?
I have paid for plex pass…

im having a problem seems to be with only a few videos but when I play them on ps5 they don’t load at all says playback error ? that was at 1.9kbps or what ever turn it down to 1.5 it works but looks awful.

then go to another movie which is 2.9 and that works does anyone know what is wrong ? or is the just a ps5 Plex problem some things work some things dont.

would like to add not very technical at all so any reply use English please not pc code lol

There is a new version of Plex for the PS5 and while it fixed the stuttering playback I seem to still have problems with it buffering and then having an unexpected playback problem with direct stream. Disabling direct stream allowed the movie I had major issues with to play through to the end. I’ve successfully played one movie with no interruptions but all others have stopped at least twice. As others have said it seems to be related to the bitrate of the file but I’m not sure where the issue crops up yet. Still, the movies with issues aren’t over 17 megabits per second. The same movies direct play with zero issues on my now unsupported TiVo Bolt. If it would be useful I can submit logs but this seems like the same bug that still needs to be resolved.

I just got a PS5, and was hoping to replace my NVidia Shield as a media hub (even got the PS5 media remote so it’s easier for my wife to navigate).

But it looks like Direct Play/Stream makes all my HEVC 10bit files buffer constantly, except for my 4K LOTR copies, strangely enough. If I turn Direct Play or Stream off, then it all transcodes from my NAS fine (except for the 100% CPU usage, which I’d really want to avoid!).

Are they still working on a fix for Direct Play/Stream? Because otherwise I quite like the experience.

I wouldn’t sell that NVidia Shield just yet. We’ve been waiting 4 months and with each update it’s gotten worse. The app is unuseable for the PS5.
