I’m used to Plex bugging out a dozen times per stream, having to constantly create new Watch Together sessions over and over and over to work around the bugs.
The Plex server recently began failing to respond without rebooting both the server and Chromecast. Okay.
The Watch Together stream never fully resumes when the other participants pause. As the host, I have to be the one to unpause. Otherwise the stream plays half a second and fakes a re-pause signal from the participant. Okay.
Ten minutes into the stream, the thing randomly experiences buffering issues. Either for the participants, or even for the host, whose Chromecast rests less than a meter from the Plex server. So whichever viewer is able to still see a timeline memorizes the place within the video. Then we create a new Watch Together invitation. Okay.
When the host fast forwards, the stream screws up. Okay.
Sometimes when you fast forward too fast, the stream screws up. Okay.
Plex presents a warning notice that it has trouble buffering but never actually downgrades the stream fidelity. Instead, it shows a loading spinner forever. So we try yet another Watch Together stream. Okay.
Today, no matter what we tried, Plex would advance only thirty seconds and then crap out completely.
Using the latest stable Snap release of Plex server on Ubuntu.
We gave up and turned the TV off.
