I purchased an AppleTV 3rd Gen shortly after they came out. I was hoping I'd be able to JB it and run ATVflash so I could use XBMC, as it is what I'd been using on my ATV1. Alas, as we know, that isn't to be the case. I purchased a smart Blu-ray player in December and started to use it with Plex. It seemed to sporadically work for me, but since the latest update, it's been working. I still looked longingly at my ATV 3rd Gen, hoping perhaps I could use it as opposed to my Blu-Ray player. I signed up for Netflix, got a sub to unblock-us and was enjoying US content.
I then see mention of Plex Connect and thought I'd give it a shot, maybe my poor little black box would be even more useful. After a few teething problems (I'm running a webserver on my Mac, plus I killed DNS by fouling up my com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist trying to fix some UDP error), I got it setup and I'm very, very happy.
An absolutely massive thanks to all of those who made Plex Connect possible :)
Just had to chime in with my first post to say thank you so much for this. Was starting to give up hope that I'd ever be able use my ATV 3 with plex yet here I am happily viewing away. Can't wait to see the little holes getting filled in over time.
