This seems to be a new task, anyone have any idea what it means? I’ve just noticed this over the past week or so.
Thanks!

for the new audio player…
Ah yea I heard about that, is it available for Windows or just mobile devices? I don’t see it listed under the downloads section on the site.
Ah I found it, not on the main plex.tv page. So this is just for mac/windows…no “apps” for devices, correct?
Sorry for all the questions but if it has its own app, why is it running a task for loudness analysis on the Plex Media Server then? Wouldn’t that be for that program only?

The idea with Plex is that everything is centralized on the server. And will be used by several, often different client apps.
Imagine you have several computers where you can run Plexamp.
Performing the loudness analysis on every one of these would be wasteful (plus: the analysis takes a while when performed thoroughly. You don’t want to wait for the analysis to finish, before your playback starts…)
Plus, other types of Plex clients may eventually gain support for some of these features as well, in the future.
Well being that I don’t have a sound system at the moment, I’ll probably skip this for now. I don’t really play music in my house (since I have no sound/speaker system setup currently) as sad as that sounds. But yea I get you.
If your server can ‘Normalize’ the audio track - so you can hear the dialog and the effects don’t blast you through the picture window - wouldn’t that be a good thing?
One Speaker or Ten - I’ll dedicate some time and resources to that analysis all day, every day.

Unfortunately only for music, currently.
Ah… well the ‘Normalize Downmix Volume’ in PMP works pretty darn good - or at least when I use the HDMI cable from Server to TV the HD Sound portion of my Magnum Graphics Adapter providing the HDMI uses the onboard Windows Normalizer - either way suits me. I use it when audio tracks refuse to submit to my will (and when I can’t stand various Plex Apps any longer - read: AFTV Plex Disaster App Version 3.0).

This is how mine shows, it always shows 0 files.
Which probably means that all the tracks have been already analysed.
You can confirm that if you call up the Plex mediainfo of some random music tracks.
If these all show a Loudness
value, the analysis is done.
Well I actually don’t have a music library (yet), so I’m assuming that’s why? I haven’t added any because since I have no speaker system, why bother? :*

so you’re watching all your videos in Plex without audio, just with subtitles?
I’m a bit confused here earlier are you all commented and said this feature was only for music and now you’re asking me about video so I’m confused is it for music or is it for video. Of course I have audio with video but I was told this was for music libraries only…as in mp3’s Etc.
It was an attempt of a joke.
You can listen to music on any Plex client.
If you can watch video, you can listen to music as well.
OK so this new feature during scheduled tasks wasn’t added for Plexamp? It just happened to be added around the same time Plexamp was released then?
Right now, it is only used in Plexamp.
That doesn’t mean it will stay that way.
I hope that loudness analysts does NOT modify the audio file itself. Does this modify your audio file in any way or does it just adjust each files internal volume in the PLEX program itself ?
I hope PLEX does NOT modify my audio files themselves. The files have been ripped in AIFF and I want all of my files original.
Nope, it just analyzes and saves information in the database.
The data is now used in the new music player which is part of the iOS and Android apps.
Does this adjust the volume output of the file ? If so how does it do it without modifying the original file ? Because some music is designed to be quiet then have a sudden burst of volume and if this levels the volume it will ruin the original recording. If I want to REMOVE this feature from my audio files can I just UN CHECK (Analyze audio tracks for loudness) then DELETE my music folder then re scan the MUSIC folder back into PLEX with this option OFF. Will this undo the loudness leveling of my audio files ?
