Hello guys,
I just happen to have the famous 2140536828 error with Plex and my PS4
I thought it would be easy to fix but after hours of searching it keep hapenning. And I see many people here and on other forums to have the same problem. However no one so far provided us a solution for this problem and people seem to have this problem since a while.
Here is some background:
I have 2 Plex server. One on my Windows computer and one on a Ubuntu server.
I installed Plex a few months ago (around September 2017) and everything was working very fine with both of my PMS. By that I mean I could watch any video with my PS4 and the PS4 Plex application.
A few days ago I decided to re-install all my Ubuntu server and I also installed the last Plex PMS. It was looking for it to work great again, just as before. But when I tried to watch a file with some subtitles with the Ubuntu seerver I got the famous 2140536828 error.
Both installations on my Windows server and Ubuntu as exactly the same (same settings are set).
Here are my findings and observations about this problem:
- It only happen with the PS4 application, as my videos with subtitles can be played on any other devices (Windows/Web/Android - probably because they don’t need to burn the subtitles in the video)
- The problem doesn’t come from the Plex PS4 application. As I told you earlier I have 2 Plex server, one with Windows and one with Ubuntu on which I installed the latest PMS on both. The files stored and played with my Windows PMS are working fine on the PS4 application - event the one with subtitles (they are burned into the video). But the file played thanks to PMS on my Ubuntu server give me the error if they have subtitles.
- It is most likely coming from PMS as the application is working properly with one PMS but not an other one.
- I tried with the same files and it’s working with my Windows server but not the Ubuntu one
- I tried to install old version of PMS on Ubuntu (from 1.0 to the latest) but I still have the same problem with the Ubuntu server
- I tried to delete and install again the latest Plex version (several times) - but I haven’t tried to install again all the server from scratch (Ubuntu)
- I tried with files with several kind of subtitles (.srt and .ass) and the error is the same
- The problem happen on every PS4 (even the one of my friends)
- I tried to uninstall the PS4 Plex application and install it again. I trid to rebuild the PS4 files also
- I made the exact same installation as previously on my ubuntu server (to be precise an installation with the QuickBox.io script - as I did several time in the past and the first time I installed Plex on a Ubuntu server when it was working fine)
- It doesn’t seem to be related to the version of Plex as users had the same problem with previous vresion of Plex (some users complained since 1.3 PMS version and I was running 1.7 or 1.8 the first time when it was running prefectly - I only had the problem with the latest Ubuntu PMS version and also old versions of PMS I installed after to try to solve the problem)
- It seems to be also related to the server as only a few user have this issue and because it was working fine before
Conclusions:
- The problem happen only with video files with subtitles (and with any kind of subtitles - and also if subtitles are into a .mkv container or are separate files)
- The problem only happen with the PS4 application
- The problem is linked with PMS
- It is most likely a problem with the transcoder when it tries to burn subtitles in the video
I can provide any .log file you want about this problem, but it is he same a presented by other users. It really makes Plex on PS4 unusable for me as I manly play videos with subtitles
So far I haven’t seen any “good” answer about this problem that seems to impact many people.
Watching without subtitles or burning them by myself in the videos are not solutions. It was working perfectly before and it can re-work perfectly
Thanks to anyone willing to help us with this problem
