Going to ask the question..... what is the point at the moment of Plex on the Ps4.

 

Dont get me wrong.  If it improved things, I would be all for it.  But at the moment...

 

Negatives....

 

It appears to play at a lower quality than the broswer based player

Its missing the search features

Its missing the list by folders features

It takes longer to start than the browser version

It has buffering issues

You need a plex pass account

 

Positivies..

 

~You dont have to press circle to make it go full screen (which you have to do in the browser)

 

Honestly, I am not trying to bash plex or the ps4 plex player, but just looking for any real advantage

I agree, of all the Plex players, PS3/4 needs the most work. Xbox 360 plex plays like a dream.

Xbox 360 plays like a dream?! I have awful sync issues with It. And horrible quality. PS4 version works great for me with no quality reduction. My experience is pretty much the opposite of you two.

Ever since the latest update on 360 its near perfect. Whereas with the PS4, its feels clunkier, and an even bigger problem is the really long buffer times and more often that not, it will just not play and will be greeted by a screen saying "Plex cannot this". No problems with 360, Roku or iOS.

I havent tried the 360 app since the update. Was the sync issues fixed? And can you up the bitrate now? I couldnt go above 4 mbps last time I tried. It was just ■■■■■■. Ill try it again after xmas. Hopefully its good like you said now. Plex is pretty much the only reason I kept my 360.

Positivies..

 

~5.1 surround sound support (enough reason for me to use the app)

~smooth playback of the videostram compared to browser version

~Accurate rewinding with the use of Dualshock buttons instead of using the pointer with sticks in the browser

The browser version locks up every time I try to change language or subtitle tracks, making it mostly useless for my anime collection or anything that I ripped with commentary tracks.  Also, the scrolling through titles on the browser version is much slower.

Yeah, what the H. is up with that !???

EVERY OTHER client do not require that the client is a Plex PASS user... 

I can't explain anyone why they have to pay ONE HUNDRED FIFTY Euro !!!!!!!! , to do something which is free on a ton of other clients.

Someone else on the forum said that it's temporary .. the PS3 / PS4 client will eventally become yet-another client like we know it from Android / iPad

Only negative I have is the lack of auto-play next episode for TV shows.

not based on my experience.  PS4 is less featured but i haven't had lip sync issues yet.

Because it has the resume play function....
