The Twilight Zone (1959) Only Fetches Data for Season 01

Why does this format only work for season one?

\plex-libs\tv-shows\The Twilight Zone (1959)\Season 02\The Twilight Zone (1959) - S02E01 - 037 King Nine Will Not Return.avi

For seasons other than one, there’s no data and the title is listed as “Episode X.”

(… and why do we have to declare the title of the series twice?)

Server Version#: 1.15.4.994
Player Version#: web browser

It’s the - 037 that is causing the error. Remove it

Plex is looking for a multipart episode named like that.

And you don’t have to declare the title twice.

Thanks. I’ll try removing episode number. I didn’t want to lose that information and thought it would be optional information.

A support article on naming (“https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/”) specifies that the show name be declared twice, like this:

“/TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext”

I assumed that “ShowName” would be the same in both instances and that the show title would be part of the “Optional_Info.”

Leave the show name in both the folder and file name.

Plex is very picky when it comes to TV show naming and organization. It is best not to stray from the documentation. If you do, it might work, but in reality you’re just getting lucky.

Regarding the “-037,” look at the documentation section “Multiple Episodes in a Single File.” Notice the structure is: /TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17-e18 – Optional_Info.ext. The “-037,” while it does not have the “e” in front, is probably close enough to confuse Plex. Yes, Plex is supposed to ignore everything past the last dash. However, every now and then there is a corner case where things fail. You probably found one.

Removal of the number after the second dash didn’t help, so that wasn’t the problem. The new file name looks right. Should the parenthetical year in ShowName be be removed?

“\plex-libs\tv-shows\The Twilight Zone (1959)\Season 02\The Twilight Zone (1959) - S02E01 - King Nine Will Not Return.avi”

Unless you ‘Plex Dance’ the entire show, you may not see any changes after a subtle change like that. The show has been matched. That takes quite a pry-bar to get that info out of Plex’s gaping maw. The Plex Dance is the ‘Do-Over’ you need.

Plex is obviously confused about something… best to start over with this show - after the naming and structuring has been made PERFECT.

Fix Match might still be required, but you won’t know until you after you Dance it with everything correct and proper. It also might help to leave out ALL the ‘Episode Title’ info:
The Twilight Zone (1959) - S02E01.avi
^^ thusly

As you found out - Plex can be confused. These days it’s best to follow the instructions as close to the letter of the law as is humanly possible. In fact, I employ non-human intervention for file naming (Filebot) and Plex STILL drops the ball about 10% of the time… food for thought…

Lastly - Plex has real issues with shows that have re-makes - like The Twilight Zone (having at least 3). If the initial match fails in ANY way - surrender and Fix Match. It’ll be quicker.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this. I ended up setting this project aside for a while. Editing 156 file names is a daunting task, so I am looking at using FileBot.

Try using sonarr from www.sonarr.tv to import your library of shows. It gives you the option of which show it is and it loads up the show with files and can rename it with a click of a button.

I use sonarr to import recorded shows into Plex and Emby. (They use the same library) I do that because sonarr allows me to more easily automate the process than FileBot but I could accomplish the same thing with FileBot it just is a bit more complex for me.

I cannot use either Plex or Emby for recording because I have no signal where I live so my recordings are done remotely and then transferred to my home.

I use FileBot for any shows I rip or already have because, like using sonarr for recordings, it is just easier for me.

Yes in that aspect of ripping media it is definitely easier to use filebot to rename. I recently started using MP4 automator script in sonarr to convert and metatag my library of shows with sonarrs manual import feature, I will have to try it out on one of my tv series dvds to see if it will convert and import with vob files.
