Hi guys, I’ve noticed since i logged in to plex and it asked me “Do you want to use are new improved metadata scanners” and I picked yes, that any new content I add doesn’t play theme music, I always add my own theme music to the folders of TV shows and name it “Theme” etc and it has always played and overridden the one plex would select its self, however, my theme music is no longer working at all, and the plex provided music is only working on shows added before the change over to the new meta scanner, anything added since just doesn’t play any theme music, anything added before plays the theme but the plex selected one! Anyone else noticed this happening?
Yes, all the settings to play theme music are still correct and present, like I said the themes still play for all content added before the new metadata system was added, it’s ONLY new shows added since the update that don’t play themes.
Naming convention is 100% correct
If my permissions were causing the issues wouldn’t that also affect media playback as the theme.mp3’s are in the same folders as the media content for the shows themselves?
I’ve reset the permission to the media folder for plex, still no joy.
I have had a double check, all the new media I have added works and plays fine as does existing media, but everything added since the day I allowed the new metadata system does not play themes, everything else does.???
Yes just updated to the very latest version, 1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee and tested, still no joy, also I have tested on iPhone, web, windows client, nvidia shield and amazon fire stick, all of them are the same, play themes for shows pre metadata update and don’t for shows added after.
Ok so I have just tested the situation by doing the following, I went on to the “Family Guy” tv show which has been on the server for years and it instantly began playing the theme song, I then went off back to the main menu then I cut the entire show and moved it to a different folder plex doesn’t watch, refreshed plex which removed the show from my library, once that was complete I then re cut and paste the show back to the “Tv Shows” folder, plex detected it and re-added the show with all metadata etc, I then went back into the show and No theme song played.
Meh, I think it is more likely the new “Update” to the new Metadata system has broken theme songs being able to be played. The fact all existing themes currently play and new ones don’t would suggest to be the existing library is ok, its new content being added after the fact.
Well I’m guessing the number of people running Plex media server on a Synology Nas limits the number, then using a 64 bit Xeon rather than ARM CPU, Then who have updated the plex media server to a current state, then activated the new “metadata” system and then noticed that themes are not playing on new content but are on old content, brings that number down to a very small pool. So I could be the first to notice?
I have Fixed the issue, Shut down PMS on Synology, restart the service, open plex windows app then click the following - “Tv shows / Manage library / Refresh all metadata” after a FULL refresh the themes for the new shows have no started working, bit strange as I did try “Refresh metadata” from within the shows and that did nothing>?
