I recently decided to migrate the location of one of my Plex libraries, and I’m getting a rather bizarre error that doesn’t seem to be documented elsewhere.
I’m running Plex Media Server on a headless Ubuntu setup, and I’ve recently been reorganizing my file structure. I decided that part of this reorganization would include moving the location of my “TV Shows” folder to a new location, so I followed the guide for navigating libraries as posted here. I first copied the entire folder to the new location (leaving the old copy as-is), then added the new folder as a location in the library settings, then re-scanned the library, then removed the reference to the old location, then removed the actual old folder on my computer.
Logged in as the “primary” account user, the library operates perfectly, and I have not lost any of my metadata. However, when I switch to any of my managed users (of which my account has several, one for each of my family members, selecting the library results in a “There are no items in this library” message on all platforms (web, mobile, etc). I have run “Empty Trash,” “Optimize Database,” and “Clean Bundles”, as well as “Scan Library” several times over. I have also restarted Plex Media Server several times, and I even tried creating an entirely new library pointing to the same content folder, but no dice.
I’m almost positive it’s NOT a linux file permissions issue because the primary account can access everything, meaning the “plex” user in ubuntu should have access - also, I have the permissions on all of the files and folders set to 775, so regardless, all ubuntu users should have read access.
Again, this issue is only affecting managed users, and everything works perfectly for the admin user. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
