There is a bug causing incorrect movie matches during the matching process

When searching for matching movies, the message “Unable to match with real movie data” appears, and title searches with “TMDB-ID” result in incorrect matches.

I attempted searches with the titles “超人之死而复生” and “tmdb-630656.” I’m part of a Plex discussion group where other users have also encountered this issue (failure to match both identical and different movies). Please assist in resolving this. Thank you.

To be clear when you search with a TMDB ID number or any other, it is still searching watch.plex.tv.

The movie at TMDB links to the same on IMDB Reign of the Supermen (2019) - IMDb So are you saying IMDB has the wrong TItles?

There are two movies, “The Death of Superman” and the sequel “Reign of the Supermen”.

There’s also a home release, “Death and Return of Superman”, that’s not quite a compilation. They’re seamlessly edited together, but (reportedly) with slightly different cuts and a few different frames in a few scenes.

Probably should be three distinct entities.

Thanks Volts for the summary. I have created a report over at tmdb Reported Problem for The Death and Return of Superman - Discuss The Death and Return of Superman — The Movie Database (TMDB) for them to take a look. My recommendation is that considering imdb does not have a entry for this specific combined recut that the external id linking tmdb to imdb be removed.

Everyone: Feel free to jump on the thread over at tmdb if they disagree so a discussion can happen there.

I went to go check and they already took care of it … :slight_smile:

After a day or so @J2ane can see if it fixed it up for them but might have best luck doing a Plex Dance probably?

  1. Would be cool if we could enter a imdb, tmdb or tvdb into the entryfield on watch.plex.tv.

  2. Would be cool if we could get a “plex id” from watch.plex.tv to enter that into the matching window on app.plex.tv.

Just an idea to make it nearly perfect.
