I receive the following error when adding poster or background artwork " there was an error uploading this artwork · try again"

I’ve attempted the following and get the same error each time

  • File size is under 1MB
  • JPEG and PNG
  • Tried all three options of “choose an image,” “drag and drop,” and “enter a url”
  • Tried at least three different movies
  • Optimized database
  • Cleaned bundles
  • Took ownership of the AppData\Local\Plex Media Server folder
  • Rebooted Windows (more than once)
  • Reinstalled PMS (without deleting my AppData\Local as I do not believe that is where the issue resides)

I tried to download logs (non-verbose) and get a 500 Internal Server Error, which may or may not be related. Everything else on my server is working properly including internal and external streaming, refreshing metadata between different agents (PlexMovie, TMDb, TVDb), and choosing different posters/artwork for existing movies.

I am out of ideas and am willing to try any ideas you might have. Please let me know!

In an older topic I read about clearing the cache of the browser which you use, or even switching browsers might rsolve this issue. Not sure if it works, but it is worth giving it a try…
