For the first time, I get an error message when trying to update artwork (poster) for movies. The error message is “there is an error uploading this artwork - try again”. I tried for more than one movie and the same issue. I searched the community and found a couple of similar issues but they were of no help in fixing this new problem. I am running plex server on an M1 Mac Studio (Running Sonoma 14.3.1) and hosting my Plex library on a Synology 720+ NAS. I have been use Safari as my browser - Version 17.3.1. (no problems using Safari for movie poster stuff in the past)
Second thing. I cannot get plex media server to upgrade to the version 1.40… The message is “processing please wait” but this process never ends and I have to manually exist that browser window. I had no problems with this in the past either. Any help much appreciated for this issue as well

I am having the same issues with Plex. Many of my movie posters keep disappearing. I re-add them and then later, they disappear again. I cannot spend hours every few weeks manually going through to re-add the movie posters.
I saw on a thread one user said they fixed the issue by manually adding them movie poster, which “locks” the image to the artwork you’ve uploaded. Otherwise, the poster is linked to some location online and if that location changes or the link gets broken, you can end up with a disappearing movie poster.
I thought I’d try this, even though uploading images for literally 1000 movies seems like an incredibly tedious task. But the first movie I tried to upload an image for I got the same issue - “there is an error uploading this artwork - try again”
But don’t try again unless you want to just be frustrated. Obviously, there is something stupid going on with Plex and their DBs…just not sure what it is. Really frustrating. I’m having a similar issue with my music. Lots of album artwork no longer appears and when I use Plexamp, a lot of my music just shows a generic musical note as the album cover. I have added these covers countless times but Plex repeatedly loses them.
This issue is beyond frustrating. Really wish Plex would get their act together with this.
I had the same issue but I was able to solved this by changing the permission (using chmod) for the Metadata folder (in my case: var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Metadata). I hope this helps!
