There was not enough free disk space to start the recording?

I have a new installation of Plex on a WD PR4100 NAS and this error message comes up on every attempt to record a show. Looking through the forums the minimum free space (200M) should not be a problem on any system, my system has TB’s available. I have tried to change the Transcoder location without success.

There also appears to be a lot ambiguity on the Transcoder error messages which provide very limited information. Based on this is is there a Plex Help or FAQ that describes the specifics of the Transcoder configuration examples and Programming Syntax?

Additionally, with respect to the Error logs (Transcoder Failure - There was not enough free disk space to start the recording) are there specific log files that that document the error condition?

Same problem. Dear Plex: Why not just delete the oldest TV episodes to make room for new ones. MythTV does this and you never get the plex famous “…not enough room…” message.

The problem with this is that Plex doesn’t distinguish between recordings and other files of the same show you may also have. Under the current rules, it may start deleting episodes you do not want it to delete.

Plex’ DVR feature is half-baked. Today it’s not even close as good as MythTV was 10 years ago when I built my first HTPC.

The reverse side of this is that Plex isn’t a DVR service. It’s a feature that’s a small part of a pretty amazing transcoder/server that is designed to (when it works right) match any type of file with any type of client.

MythTV had a singular focus, whereas Plex has many… which, some might say is too many.

Yes, I would say that it’s too many. We have tons of features … and most of them are half-baked and buggy.
