This is a "Am I allowed to stream this question"

Hi,

I wish to setup Plex soon.

This is my main question:

I have many dvd movies and TV shows that were ripped for my own personal viewing to protect too against disks that go bad as well. I do not share, period.

I just wish to stream this around my house , again NOT TO SHARE.

Is this ok or a grey area? Would I get a letter from my ISP or get sued?

I just want to start things off right.

Thanks !

If you don’t share with anyone then your ISP isn’t involved in the first place. Letters like that are generally from public torrents and streams, not private streaming. What they are concerned with is the distribution of media to the masses, not ones own system of watching it. You can still allow people you know to use your Plex server and never have to worry about it.

Thank you …Follow up if I may… When I travel and would like to view my video remotely on my other PC or smartphone, is that permissable too as per my original post?

Again thanks !!!

Yes, its fine. Look at it this way… why should it matter where you are?

So from house a to house b or house a to smartphone is still private streaming?

Thanks again, beginning to make sense, now to tackle Plex on NAS or Plex on my powerful PC

Your server, your account, your device and you are watching it. You can’t get more private. Stop worrying and go watch a movie.

Thank you for the great advice !
