This server is not powerful enough to convert video

Server Version#: current
Player Version#: LG OLED C9 / 4K FireStick

I am trying to play a 4k video rip I did - 51,226kbs on an X99 i7-6850 CPU @3.60Ghz 64-bit on wireless over an ASUS GT-AX11000 and I get this message

Any idea why this is happening? I just don’t get it - it certainly play just fine on the computer with VideoLAN.

The FireStick just spins - no error message.

The PLEX Transcoder never goes above 35%. I have the Base Priority for it on RealTime.

The router is the most powerful one you can buy - ASUS GT-AX11000.

Thanks.

Also, for some reason, I cannot create a New Topic, so I’m adding this info here.

I tried another large file and I get the ERROR: h4 (not supported) even when I ripped the file from my blu-ray!

I did a search for this and followed the instructions (delete the codec file) error persists. WTH???!

Also, why the heck would it try and transcode anyway? I turned Transcode off, and even set it to FASTEST.

This is getting really irritating.

If you turn off the transcoder then the client must be able to direct play the file or you will get errors. For your Fire TV, it cannot play TrueHD audio, so that will fail. On your LG TV, 4K videos must be in an MP4 format to direct play. It also cannot handle PGS subs if you’ve enabled those.

Why must it be in MP4? I play plenty of MKVs.

But again, it doesn’t answer the main question I posed - I HAVE a powerful CPU - what is the minimum for this functionality?

It’s a limitation of the OS on the LG TVs.

You said you turned off the transcoder. If you turn it off, it can’t transcode, so the files can’t play. Turn it back on and allow the transcoder to work.

Again, the LG OLED C9 is NOT limited to MP4s. As I said, I play PLENTY of MKVs.

Also, these are the specs:

ULTRA HD Video [For ULTRA HD model only]
H.264 1920x1080@60P 4096x2160@30P BP/MP/HP@L5.1 50Mbps
HEVC 4096x2160@60P MP@L5.1, Main10 Profile@L5.1 50Mbps

first see @ Plex, 4k, transcoding, and you please read whole thread

no known smart tvs support truehd.
many smart tvs have limited subtitle support

make sure you have 5.1 audio stream selected and subtitles disabled.

if it works then you know what the problem was. (hd audio and/or subtitles).

otherwise, if you want help, more details.

are you using the fire stick or plex directly on the tv?

fire stick does not support DTS, so you must use dolby digital/ac3/5.1/stereo

https://forums.plex.tv/search?q=LG%20OLED%20C9

you don’t have plex pass, so the dashboard won’t tell you much, and you won’t get gpu transcoding.

logs. verbose OFF, debug ON.

reproduce problem > Plex Web > settings > troubleshooting > download logs > drop zip into reply here.

Sorry, my mistake. This use to be a limitation and still applies on most devices. However, some of the newer LG TVs can support mkv, but only if the audio is also supported.

To get a better understanding of support, in the LG app, there is an option to enable logging back to your server. Turn this on, playback the file, let it play for 30s. Get the log from PMS.

Also please see this thread.

I will try changing the audio option. I have never had an issue with subs or 4K 10bit before. Again, ALL MKVs. I have tried both the FireStick and the LG app - LG app gives me the errors, FireStick just continually spins.

I did read your entire article and I do not see how those options relate to my situation.

You do know about the giant, multi-legged, fur bearing bug that’s eating everyone’s cattle in FireTV world… don’t you?

No, not at all - never had a problem with it before.

Neither did the other 10s of thousands of FireTV users that are now having problems - some more than others.

Fixes are rolling out. Eventually, we hope, things start getting better.

In the meantime, work through what these veterans are telling you/asking of you, as they try to find out if there’s a ‘work-around’ for you.

I rarely use the FireStick for Plex - 99% is the LG.

In that case:

Where is that option?

In the app, open the Settings and go to “Privacy > Log to Media Server” and enable the setting
