Thumbnails with shows I have never put in and clips of shots from shows already put in

All at once I have movie thumbnails of shows I do not have folders or files for.

I also have various thumbnails that have been created, from what looks like to me, screen shots from the movie itself.

I could see how I am getting thumbnails from shows I already have but to get thumbnails from shows I have never watched and never had and never put on the server puzzle’s me.

Anyone have a fix or explanation for it?

I would like to prevent this from happening again.

Glen

Inspect the Plex media info of these items. This will give you a clue to where the file sits. I would assume, it is often due to poor file naming and/or missing folder organization, so Plex mistakes a file for a completely different movie or tv show.

I can understand about naming or organization. In the beginning I had made mistakes with that. I have been doing this for over five years and had a complete failure on two computers which required me to redo everything. So no that is not the issue here. Again this is a movie I have never watched rented or purchased to put on Plex. Which in my eyes would make it very difficult to make the naming and folder placement mistake.

I did take your suggestion on looking where it’s located. Strange thing is I have never even looked at the location before let alone made or placed any files there. After trying to find the location I did notice that the supposed missing file was marked "media-00000.ts. All the files that I make are listed and saved as a “.MKV” file. When I rip my files they are all made into “.mkv” files. In addition to this all my files are saved to a pool of hard drives listed as “v”.
This file was supposedly saved to " C:\Users]Cache\Transcode\Sessions\plex-.transcode-8A23C2A2-0752-4389-A2D0-FC6969D92215B5-903eaec0e0-4804-b5d0-91166f1c473a\media=00000.ts. Since this is a dedicated Plex machine the only files and programs are for Plex support and the “C:\” location is the dedicated hard drive for the operating system and programs for Plex and Plex support.

I can see how a file may possibly be corrupted and a seperate file be made for it which may explain the single movie clips from movies that have already been made and named. Question is how this file was made and also several others that I haven’t made? I also took another close look at some of the clips that I thought were from movies and found that they were somehow connected to itunes!?!?!!???

So how was the file listed in plex when it’s not made by or save by me? How can I prevent this from happening again?

You have pointed one of Plex’s libraries to look for media in the Plex data folder (or one of its subfolders). You must never do this!

Edit your library(s), go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab and make sure that none of the paths there starts with C:\users (and of course neither on C:)

Nice catch. I probably was moving my mouse to quick! I found the added folder in question and deleted it and saved the changes.

I now have the issue of having posters on the page that have a trash container on them. I was able to directly delete a number of them but found that I could not delete all of them.

Any suggestions?

And by the way thank you for the help.

Glen

Empty library trash. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200392106-library-actions/

Do also verify all libraries again, if the added folders all are

  • still existant
  • accessible
  • not completely empty

That did the trick!! Now everything is back to normal. Thank you for all your help.
