I have a question about Plex. I’ve noticed that most of my media has missing thumbnails and I’m not sure how to go about fixing this. Is there a program that can find the correct pictures for my media?
Also, I’m not totally understanding how to put Movies and Tv Shows in their correct format. I’ve followed the steps but I must be messing up somewhere. In Plex it only comes up as the name then the year underneath but not showing the season in the season. It shows as two series, like for example, it says Falling Skies twice, but it does not say Falling skies once then the season, it says Falling Skies then the year, then next to it there’s another called Falling Skies then the same year under it.

You must help Plex identify your media. This enables Plex to fetch the right metadata for them.

Which steps did you follow?
The minimum file naming requirement for movies is
Complete Official Title of Movie (Releaseyear).ext
If you are unsure about either, look up your movie at the IMDB.
Tv shows are a bit more demanding. You need a separate library for tv shows.
- Look up your show on TheTVDB
- Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like
§ : % *
, simply leave them out.
- Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
- Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder.
Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext
(‘- additional info’ can be left out)
- After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

How do I go about helping plex identify my media? I’m currently using Filebot. But that moves everything I rename to a different folder on a different drive.
I followed the steps in the Plex Naming Guide.
/TV Shows
/Grey’s Anatomy
/Season 01
Grey’s Anatomy - s01e01.avi
Grey’s Anatomy - s01e02 - The First Cut is the Deepest.avi
Grey’s Anatomy - s01e03.mp4
/Season 02
Grey’s Anatomy - s02e01.avi
Grey’s Anatomy - s02e02.mkv
Grey’s Anatomy - s02e03.m4v
Just for reference, It means that I have to make a folder inside the show folder named (Said Show) then when inside the folder I make another folder but for each different season. Right?

Yes, perfect. Just like it should be.
And you added the folder /TV Shows
to a library of the type ‘tv shows’? Does this library use the metadata agent ’ TheTVDB’ ?
(You can check by editing your library)
Yup, All my Tv Shows are in the correct place in the Server. Also I checked the TVDB and it does indeed have one of the shows I have, But its still not showing the thumbnail for the media.
Is your server running on a NAS or a Linux system?
Make sure you didn’t activate ‘jumbo frames’ in its network configuration.
If that still doesn’t change anything:
-
activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
- quit Plex Server
- wait 1 minute
- empty the log folder
- start Plex Server
- wait 2 minutes
- either refresh one epside or add one episode into your library
- wait 3 minutes
- shut down Plex server
- wait 1 minute
- zip up the whole log folder and attach it here
I guess it counts as a NAS. But its streaming from my computer that acts as my server. I’m not really sure. Sorry.
So Plex server runs on your computer?
What type of computer is it (or better: which type of Operating System does it use)?
Its a windows computer. Windows 7.

Well, those do rarely have jumbo frames switched on.
You probably still want to make sure by inspecting the properties of your network adapter.
Did you move the plex data folder to a different location? Like onto an external disk or a ‘drive pool’?
I just checked if Jumbo Frames was on, It was disabled so I don’t think that was a problem.
My Data folder is on my C drive. Which is my OS drive.
I should note that some of my thumbnails do work, however others do not, even when its clearly listed on the TVDB.
Amount of free space on drive C: ?
Apart from that, follow the guide to get meaningful log files I posted above.
Right now I have 593GB free of 930GB.
I think I did this right.
OK, I see some weirdness.
First, let’s cover the usual suspects:
Make sure your Antivirus is not interfering in the Plex data folder. Create an exemption for that folder in the A/V’s preferences. C:\Users\Tim's\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\
Have you checked, which file system is used on your drive C: ? (It should be NTFS)
Are you using other software which inserts itself into the TCP/IP network stack of Windows? One infamous example is “AdAware web companion”, which interferes with Plex operation seriously.
Other ‘Internet Security’ solutions may do the same.
Disable that Windows may let the network adapter ‘sleep’ in the properties of the network adapter.
Alright, So I just added C:\Users\Tim’s\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\ to my AV. My AV that I’m using is Kaspersky Total Security.
What should I disable?

You should not add this to your AV. You should tell your AV to stay out of there.

The ‘Anti-Banner’ module, according to this
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201424327-Why-do-I-get-metadata-but-no-images-for-my-library-items-
Sorry I meant that I added it to the Excluded.
Also I disabled anti banner but nothing changed. Would it be possible to add the URLs that plex needs to work to the anti banner excluded URLs? If so, What URLs should I use?

It only changes after you ‘refresh’ this whole show.

Not possible. There are far too many used, and these also are usually behind a load-balancer server (like ‘Cloud Flare’ etc) so there are too many different URls and addresses.
