I cannot Chromecast any TIDAL content. I just get a message saying “Sorry! Oops something went wrong” on the Chromecast.
Have tried casting from PMS, Windows desktop, Chrome, Pixel 3 phone, iPad. Have 3 different Chromecast devices in the house: 3rd gen, 2nd gen, Nest mini. Same error on all of them.
Found some old posts that this was a known limitation. Is it still not possible or is there some problem at my end?
So I have narrowed down the issue to when I am attempting to Chromecast TIDAL songs which I have added to my Plex library. If I Chromecast a song direct from “Music by TIDAL” then all is fine. But if I add the song to my library and then attempt to Chromecast it says “Sorry! Source is unavailable”
This is very frustrating as I would like to build one seemless library rather than switch between the two.
I tried casting TIDAL tracks added to my music library this weekend and was unable to get it to work. I don’t remember receiving an error message, however. In face, the track appears to be playing (the seek bar progressed), but no audio was played. I did not try casting from the TIDAL library. I will have to try this out later and see if I can get it to work. It’s still at least partially broken it appears.
Did you manage to test this? I still cannot Chromecast TIDAL content which has been added to my library. A very frustrating situation as I use Chromecast for streaming lossless content to my main sound system which takes best advantage of the lossless quality.
I’m glad it is not just me (but not glad it is happening at all to anyone!). Wish I could find a fix or some advice but there doesn’t seem to be any that helps. I’m just coming around to the idea that I won’t be able to use Chromecast for my Plex music collection whilst I have Tidal integration, which I love. It’s a pain but manageable (I think).
Finally was able to test this and can absolutely confirm that TIDAL tracks that have been added to the local music library will not play when cast. However, tracks played for the TIDAL library work just fine when cast.
Also, I’m not receiving an error. The seek bar will progress 1 second and then stop. No audio is ever played. Perhaps I didn’t wait long enough for an error to be presented?
Would be good to hear something about this from someone at Plex as to whether this is a known limitation (perhaps some side effect of the agreement between Tidal and Plex) or unexpected behaviour.
Have to think it’s unexpected behavior. Casting TIDAL clearly works as long as the songs aren’t part of your music library. Perhaps we’ll get an acknowledgement of the issue!
Hello, same problem with my chromecast device. But if you choose airplay instead of chromecast, it will work. Not really an alternative but I think it‘s a plex issue. Otherwise airplay would not work.
Was looking for a solution for this issue for a while. Still not solved for me (casting Tidal songs from my own library doesn’t work). I wasn’t aware of that, but I can cast songs from the Tidal tab.
Same issue. Also affects playlists that mix tracks from library with tracks from Tidal. Even mixing songs in the currently playing queue is sometimes hit or miss.
Can we get a comment from a Plex employee? Or do I need to report the bug elsewhere? Reading through forum posts, there seem to have been issues with casting since the Tidal integration was first released.
I would think casting is pretty core functionality for this feature (and audio in general). Or do most people listen to their Plex music on headphones through the app?
I agree. At least an acknowledgment of this issue would be welcome.
I think it is a fairly core functionality. Whilst people have a range of ways of listening, I think casting is a fairly common option, especially with a hifi setup.
Since integrating Tidal with Plex I have about 50/50 local tracks and Tidal tracks in my playlist so not having cast for the tidal tracks makes it impossible to do any sort of listening that would mix the two.
I have been using Plexamp a lot which does not currently have cast but it is a promised feature for Plexamp and if that comes along without the ability to cast Tidal tracks in my library, then it’s going to be a massive limitation.
Yes have the same problem. Tried with various clients and it just refuses to play tidal tracks in my library. This is the whole point of having tidal. Plexamp works seamlessly and miles better for music. Hopefully this will cast soon.
I agree Plexamp is great but if casting tidal won’t work from all other Plex clients there’s no reason to suppose it will work from Plexamp when they eventually add cast support. It seems to be an issue with their overall integration of tidal.
