Plex with Tidal - streaming to chromecast

I started a membership of tidal to my plex. but I can’t stream music from Tidal to my chromecast to listen it on my hifi system over the plex app. Does anyone have the same problem?

thanks

Current known limitation.

Fairly certain here that Tidal only works with the webapp, IOS, Android, and the plexamp. It does not work on my chromecast devices or AppleTV. Hopefully this stuff gets added soon.

Currently Tidal-enabled apps are listed in here https://support.plex.tv/articles/an-intro-to-tidal-with-plex/

Same here: I cannot stream music from the webapp to chromecast. (“This content is not currently supported when connected to a remote player.”) But it works, if i play the music locally and connect later to chromecast. Same behaviour on Android v7.8.2
@OttoKerner: The webapp and Android v7.8.2 are Tidal-enabled apps according to https://support.plex.tv/articles/an-intro-to-tidal-with-plex/
So is it allowed to play music via chromecast or not? I don’t understand the idea to have a high fidelity music service and prohibit to play the music on high fidelity speakers…
I like Tidal, but of course i will cancel my subscription if i cannot play the music on my speakers.

When you do that, you are not using the Plex app on the Chromecast.
You will have to leave the Plex app open on the phone, or playback will stop on the CC.

Later, after the Plex CC app has been improved, you will be able to start playback with your phone and the CC will then play on its own. No need to keep the phone around and switched on.

so, there will be an update which will allow streaming tidal directly via PlexAPP (CC)?

This is the plan, yes.

Currently, there is only Tidal support in the clients listed in https://support.plex.tv/articles/an-intro-to-tidal-with-plex/

Same.

This will likely be one of 2 current “dealbreakers” for me cancelling before my free trial expires.

The integration is excellent. It addresses two of the biggest and most common complaints about Tidal:

  1. The UI of the Tidal app is pretty poor. I think the UI of the Plex app while navigating the Tidal library is a much better user experience.
  2. The gaps in the tidal library are easily filled in with my own collection of CD rips and HiRez purchases…

But the inability to cast to a CCA from within the Plex app is a pretty significant nerf to both of those things; it means for whole home (CCA) audio, I can’t really realize EITHER of those benefits. It’s only useful on my headphones rig. And I use headphones all day long while I’m at work; when I’m at home, I really prefer, when possible, to get the headphones off and listen to some proper speakers/sub in a room, not be tethered to a chair and an amp…

It’s frustrating that it seems so close to being the HiFi streaming service that I want and would be willing to pay for…

Tidal Plex does not work with IPad or IPhone streaming music from Tidal to CCAudio using the cast button in Plex. Is this going te change or can I beter switch to Roon? Then I use the CCAudio as end point because Roon delivers what they promis.

Yeah, I just set up a headless rasplex/hifiberry dac + pro in my living room and it’s awesome. However, when selecting tidal music from my android tablet controlling the Pi, I got the same “This content is not currently supported when connected to a remote player.” Disappointing. Hopefully this will be added soon. I couldnt get it to work by switching devices after beginning playback like jewenet said. I don’t get the error then, but no music either. I am thoroughly in love with the headless Pi setup with Rasplex and controlled with the Plex app. Got a second one too on my bedside table with a USB dac and my Grados. So hopefully this last glitch can be fixed. I trialed Roon, pretty good, but pricey as hell. Didn’t bite as Plex is almost as good for music and I already have the lifetime pass. It’s amazing what Roon charges for basically Volumio with Allmusic glued on top. Maybe Plex can enrich the music metadata experience a little more. Cheers

Same problem here, I’m not allowed to cast to CC or my beautiful audio system!!! It is February now and I just started my trial. Since this thread was started a while ago and this still doesn’t work I will almost certainly cancel this subscription. It’s 100% pointless to me if I cannot use my audio system. I mean really, who would even market this as ready for service yet.

Sorry, but I have the same story, now cancelled the TIDAL subscription as it is of no use to me. Too much investment in Chromecasts on the systems around the house.

I don’t have chromecast, but I hope one of you guys on this page will be able to help me out. I’m a longtime Tidal user, and the single reason I downloaded Plex was to be able to control Tidal on my desktop computer remotely using my iOS device.

Was I completely wrong in thinking Plex could do this? I don’t know how, but all the stuff I read about Plex seemed to suggest that this was possible.

(“Stream smarter. Your favorite movies, TV, music, web shows, podcasts, and more, all streamed to your favorite screens.”)

After installing the server on my desktop and the app on my device and connecting the two, when I try to play a Tidal song on my iOS device I get the message “plex playback is not currently supported for this content when connected to a remote player.” I even went on the main page to play a video to see if that would play and got a similar message. So what is the point of this function? What can you play on your desktop from your mobile device?

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

You will need to install the Plex Media Player client on your desktop as well to have a playback solution on the PC (server is only server). One installed you should be able to select it as controllable client from the iOS app.

Just started the Tidal trial period yesterday, and it will definitely not be prolonged until this is resolved. I mean, shouldn’t the ability to stream to whatever device I own be a logical implementation?

Advertise it as ‘beta’ instead of ‘ready’!

Thanks for your reply, but I just downloaded the Plex Media Player on my iMac and I’m getting the same error message (“plex playback is not currently supported for this content when connected to a remote player"). This is the case whether I’m choosing the Media Player or Safari as playback location. Eventually the square streaming icon goes dark and I can’t select anything.

(By the way, I get that error message when I try to play anything, i.e. news videos, podcasts, whatever.)

Also, there is a green tick next to Remote Access in the Media Player, if that is useful to know.

Ahh yes, I see what you mean. My apologies, I had assumed this would work without thinking too much about it but I get the same result as you when I turned Tidal content. It’s early days so maybe licencing issues that must be preventing this can be worked out positively. I use Roon for music which allows for this kind of remote control of endpoint. It’s pretty expensive though.

Thanks again; but as I just added in my edit, I get this message whatever the content is I’m trying to play. So, what I’m wondering is, what even can you play remotely, if not Tidal, not podcasts, not news videos? There’s no licensing issues with podcasts, for example, right? I mean I can stream podcasts from my iTunes remote on my iPod to my Mac via Apple’s Remote app.

Here are some screenshots from my iPod, in case that helps. As you see, a screen that looks like a remote pops up randomly, but nothing happens when I press any of the buttons.

Good question, wish I could help. I don’t use Plex for podcasts or use the news feature at all. I can ‘cast’ all my local media (music, videos) in the way you want so maybe it is just all online sources and probably does have something to do with licencing.
