I get most of my music on Bandcamp and FWIW, I would love some Bandcamp integration
Personally I wouldn’t care about being able to purchase/stream/browse directly through Plexamp, (though I can imagine that could be useful)… but something as relatively “simple” as a quick link to an artist’s page and a badge and/or notification for new releases would be really helpful (and some integration into advanced filters).
anyway, off-topic - but wanted to put in my 2c, just in case there’s any real chance of future Bandcamp integration
I’m adding my voice to the cry of disappointment at this distressing outcome. I’ve relied on the Tidal integration for years to augment my modestly large personal collection. I was in love with how Doppelganger worked as a DJ and sang its praises to anyone who would listen.
I do hope a suitable alternative can be arranged at some point. Qobuz, or something similar.
I don’t plan on keeping Tidal stand-alone around - it’s not worth the expense by itself. I would have gladly paid more for the integration, however.
I will continue to use PlexAmp as my daily driver for music. But, it will be less exciting, less enthralling without the good augmentation that Tidal brought to the table.
I never really used the tidal integration in plexamp but I did enjoy the soundtracks showing up in the movie pages. Was tempted to go back to tidal as I’m enjoying ad-free youtube and youtube music but I guess I’ll stay with that. Shame.
This is what originally hooked me. I was watching the original Daria series which had tons of licensed music and I randomly looked down and saw “songs from this episode” and it blew my mind that I could just go and listen to them / add them to Plex. Ah well. I just cancelled Tidal yesterday.
Yeah, Tidal also dropped off of Roku recently. NBD, except that I’d only just trained an older family member to use the darned thing, and now I’ve got to start again from scratch.
just removed Tidal integration from my Plex library. it felt so odd. Also eliminated all tidal tracks from my library. Now I gotta get used to it, I guess. Been playing more Spotify as of late though, just wish I could integrate it with my Plex music library.
C’m on! We all know in Tech (and a lot of other places as well) it takes two to tango. So I’m a little hesitant to solely place the blame on Tidal. But they’ll get their share, of course. So away goes the Tidal subscription. Well deserved.
But then what? I’m losing an exciting feature, namely creating a frame of reference around my music collection. Wisely introducing me to new stuff. I have to admit I feel stuck in a dead end. No … I think in today’s world combining owning music and listening to new sources of inspiration is just the way to go.
I know that there’s a lot ben said here regarding disappointment that the Tidal integration within Plex is going. Can’t help but feel disappointed, but I accept that it is what it is and I’m sure that the folks at Plex have disappointment too.
I for one loved the integration and used it to fill some gaps in my local library. I found it a great way to discover new music too via PlexAmp which is a great music player app!!
The question I have is, is there any export tool that would export a list of my Library that came from Tidal? - doing so would enable me at least to have a list that I could go looking elsewhere for.
Hope that Plex do some new great things to continue developing Plex to support music as that is my primary focus. Thanks for all that you guys at Plex do
Plex just ended it. Never got an email about moving over.
Not sure why Roon still has integration. Plex getting slower and slower and worse. Recommendations is an intrusion and something that should be user configurable. Have to pay for Infuse Pro to play some thing at proper quality due to poor Plex coding.
Been with Plex a long time (since the start) but looks like its heading rapidly downhill. No useful features - loss of customers.
With a heavy heart I felt, I had to do the same. I don’t need much: No video, no fancy hifi components, basically I need quality sound with a reliable remote control (of my Mac’s Plexamp hooked up to the stereo) and some kind of streaming integration.
Given the very reasonable price tag (as you mentioned) Plex was well worth dealing with a few bugs (need to restart server once in a while, badly working remote control in Plex app).
With streaming integration gone, there is still the most beautiful user interface of Plex and Plexamp. But discovering music starting from my library to me was the killer feature. Maybe I’ll be back one day.
I tried switching back to Roon, but quickly discovered that after 4 years of knowing that users have many, many problems with repetitive tracks on Roon Radio they have done next to nothing to fix the issue. Since easily 50% of my listening is based on “radio stations” or “sonic adventures” or whatever you want to call it (“set it and forget it”), having this type of feature be annoyingly repetitive is a deal breaker. It also sucks that Roon won’t let you combine artists to create a station, so you can’t do anything similar to a Plex Sonic Adventure. Despite getting bought by Harmon Kardon, Roon hasn’t improved their service in any appreciable way since I was last a subscriber in early 2021 and they basically ignore users who report fundamental problems with the service. At least with Plex, I can see that they are continuously making improvements to Plexamp and such.
Roon can be used outside of your network with Roon Arc - It is a separate app (so no tranferring of playlist from Arc to regular roon - say you want to continue listening when you exit the car by tranferring the playlist to your streamer at home.
Also, Roon Arc can be a pain of your ISP has CGNAT enabled - not something most people are comfortable calling their tech support about (it can only be disabled at your ISP level, and some simply refuse to do so (I am with Aussie Broadband - and they had me set up in minutes).
For outside of network streaming, PlexAmp is way better.
Thanks for the info.
I am giving it a try… Roon Arc did not work at first, but when I enabled UPnP, it worked fine. Now I am wondering how Plexamp worked without UPnP!
Tidal integration looks fine, but I still need to understand how it works. It looks a bit more complicated than it was on Plex.
Further, I appreciate the fact that Roon is a bring-your-own-music service, that means that you do not need to pay Tidal thru them.
Still, I strongly hope Plex will find new partners among the streaming services.
I had been subscribing to Tidal through Plex, and it worked via Plex apps, Tidal app, and Roon app. Today my subscription thru Plex ended, so no Tidal through any of those 3 apps. I just renewed my Tidal subscription thru Tidal. Now Tidal works great thru Tidal app AND thru Roon app, but not Plex apps. If Roon can still integrate with Tidal (now that I’m paying Tidal directly), why can’t Plex still let me listen to Tidal?
I love Plex, even better than Roon, but I occasionally want to listen to Tidal without leaving my streaming app. I hope Plex has plans to continue supporting Tidal via the Plex apps.
