I´m have a Lifetime Plex Pass since many years. Yesterday I decided to upgrade my Tidal subscription to Tidal Hifi since I just bought a new and great sounding audio streamer. I paid €18.99 and upgraded. Then I played a few songs for about an hour and I were happy. But after 2 hours I got a mail saying: “Your Tidal subscription has expire. Renew today.”
This is disappointing to say the least. Paying a lot of money so that I can’t listen to music seems like a rotten deal. Now my new streamer is quiet as death…
I have contacted Plex support but no reply.
Anyone have had this experience?
Any suggestion what to do?
Where did you buy this Tidal subscription?
At the website of Tidal or Plex’s website?
Where did you buy this Tidal subscription?
Plex website. Or rather I upgraded from within Plex.
Paid with Paypal. The money has been taken from my account. And as I said it worked for awhile.
Strange thing is that when I look in my Account Payments it says following:
| Upgrade | TIDAL HiFi | Executed | 0,00 € | 2020-12-07 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lapsed | TIDAL HiFi | Executed | 0,00 € | 2020-12-08 | |
| But as I said, I have a receipt from Paypal @ €18:99 for the upgrade. |
Your ticket has not been forgotten. There are several eyes on it right now.
Thank you. That is great news.

Any news on when I will get my subscription/music back?
Sorry, it is still being investigated.
Plex’s handling of Tidal is ridiculous. It took several weeks initially to get Tidal working with Plex, but then eventually it did. I’ve been paying for it just fine eighteen times - once I had a credit card stolen and cancelled and Plex errored out but my Tidal subscription didn’t die.
This time? This time I had to cancel a credit card because of fraud yet again and when Plex bonked, it wiped me out so completely that:
- Tidal wants me to start a new subscription
- Plex won’t even acknowledge that I paid to restart
- Tidal has no record that I ever HAD a subscription and their only solution is for me to start over
- Plex insists I start a new subscription through Tidal and then link it, thereby eliminating the measly $1 discount.
I mean, guys, I already had a lifetime Plex Pass. That didn’t gain me anything. And now whatever I gained from linking to Tidal? I just lost it because you guys can’t make billing work. How hard is this?
Eight emails, five days and approximately 15 screenshots to prove I’m not a lying idiot later, Tidal is running again. This seems to be the solution:
-
Make it as clear as you humanly can that Plex’s billing links with Tidal are non-functional
-
Wait for the gnomes to do something on the back end
-
Go to your https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources account page and disable the Music/TIDAL provider
-
On your https://plex.tv/users/other-services account page, unlink TIDAL, and then link it fresh
-
Back on the Online Media Sources page, enable the Music/TIDAL provider again
-
Wait 10 minutes for changes to propagate
-
Restart (e.g. force-quit and launch) the player app
Mostly putting this here for the next time Plex skunks my subscription without so much as a grace period because of a lapsed or cancelled credit card.
