I am pretty new to PLEX and DVR functionality. I have my server running on a Windows 2008 R2 server. I have a HDHomeRun - Connect Quatro Tuner - Black. I can record shows but do not see a way to start watching the show until after it is finished recording and it shows up in my PLEX client “TV Shows” library. Am I missing something here? Thank you for any help or direction.
This is becoming a cord cutting showstopper in my family because of the time. Example: TV show starts at 8:00, kids finish homework at 8:30, then can start to watch the show and skip commercials to finish watching the show by 9:10 and be in bed by 9:30. Yes this is early but we can do it now with current setup. If we have to wait for the recording to finish then they will start to watch the show at 9:00 and it will finish by ~ 9:40 and be in bed by 10:00. Does not sound like a big difference but it is beyond what we find acceptable for them to get to bed…
Timeshifting Question: Can I start to watch a show that has started recording before it is finished?
You can try to go to the program guide now playing and find the channel that is being recorded from which in itself is not an easy thing to do and select to tune to that channel.
I have heard of reports of this working and being able to watch from the beginning of the recording and ff through the commercials but in my experience that does not work and has corrupted some recordings so i have stayed away from this.
I do know this has been requested and it seems some progress has been made over time but I don’t believe this is currently supported functionality.
Or just have them skip one night of watching and have them watch the prior nights recording which is ready to go…
I hope this and other functionality is added to the LiveTV and DVR.
This has been available for Android since December 2017! I completely missed it and well in all honesty not intuitive for me, but it’s there and that’s all I needed! I love my FireTV even more now!
