I have a 2017 Nvidia Shield TV running to my projector with a 110" screen.
Since the new update that changed everything, the new player displays a tiny screen, maybe 32" and is really crappy quality. It plays fine on the old player.
I have been waiting to see if this would get fixed and it still hasn’t.
Does anyone have a fix to this?
There is a setting during playback. Check to see if it is set to original. In this case original means the original resolution so if you have a 720p file and a 1080p projector, it will show as a small video window with lots of black borders. Set it to letterbox or one of the other settings if you want it to totally fill the screen.
Edit - It will remember this setting for future videos.
I have tried changing the playback to all options and the size remains reduced. Letterbox, stretch, etc.
All of these work properly on the old player, not the new.
The quality is also significantly worse than 720p.
Wasn’t an issue before the last update either.
Can you play something then get me the log from the Plex for Android app on the shield? Android, Android TV, Fire TV Logs | Plex Support
Edit - Why make and model projector do you have so I can look up the specs on what it can do.
It’s a Epson EH-TW6600. Haven’t had any issues over the last few years. It’s just this new update.
I’ll try and grab a log in a sec and post it soon.

1 - please provide logs as txt files, reading PDF’s is hard
2 - you are running an old version of the app, try updating and see if that helps
Sorry about the slow reply. I have updated to the current version and it is still about 18" on a 110" screen.
I’ve put a new log in a txt file. I did it on my phone last time and couldn’t work out how.

Check the option for resolution switching. Turn it off.
This is a very strange issue, if you could try switching off resolution switching and refresh rate switching it might indicate where the problem is (if it works with those disabled).
If not, would you be able to use the old player to play something and then share the logs? If you could then play the same thing in the new player and share those logs as well that would be a big help!
Resolution switching and refresh rate switching are both turned off.
I have attached the logs for both players. New player has an issue, old player works well.
I know that you aren’t working on the old player anymore. But at the same time the new player got this issue, the old player started playing the theme music over the top of the show when you hit play. So I need to push play, pause the show and wait out the theme music and then resume. Which is also pretty annoying.

I’m having the exact same issue. Would love to hear if you find a solution!
So any other suggestions?
So is anyone looking at this issue?
Ok the new update is causing the old player to crash when I start a movie, either instantly or within about 5 seconds. The new player is still a tiny screen. How do I fix this because I can no longer watch plex on the Nvidia Shield TV in my theatre room???
OK I’ve fixed it.
Changed to a normal size TV and still had the issue.
So I disabled plex, cleared cache and data. Enabled/updated plex again. And it’s back to normal size.
So basically an uninstall to fix it.
